I feel like I've seen them before up there before but I'm not 100% sure. I'll go with Red Letter Day, the jumper.

Yes, they have run 2-mile races up here before. Not often, but they do.

And a field of 9 signed up. This will be a good one to see.

I'm all for longer races, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. They usually wind up way spread out at the finish in these types.

I'm sure they will be but the fact they got 9 horses for a 2 mile race in this day and age is a small ray of sunshine. I will enjoy it for what it is.

I'm with you, pretty cool they drew that many. I actually think the longer races are easier on horses, but obviously many others don't agree.

I absolutely agree with you on that.

looks like Jacobson has an entry? -EA

The Pletcher horse (bridgeloan?) will be a key horse to know. He should take some money.

Ea just won the other day.....

good catch

EA and Sumo(two of the top contenders) both raced 8/6

would have to guess they would scratch.
Contessa's Veiled Prophet is a scratch also...

Jacobson's SpringCourt would only have 12 days off, but this could be a good spot

looking good for Bridgeloan

If memory serves me, EA has won on 5d rest earlier this year. I would expect him to run.

I guess it's a three turn race with the gate at the 7f position?
Should be pretty cool. Hopefully the field will not see many defections.

FL used to have a starter handicap series of long races.....going longer every two weeks, sometimes one week.

IT was carded to allow our bottom $1500 (yes, hundred!) claimers to get in and keep on winning. Mile and a quarter up to two miles ( then eventually to 4+ miles) but the horses who did well in that series raced every week or two and come out moving up in class - some of our best allowance horses came from the bottom by way of the marathons. And the fields were full every time.

Suprised to see only one steeplechase horse entered at a juicy price.

For those who like stats, the jumper is turning back from 2 5/16 miles to 2 miles, an angle which produced five winners during the 1878 Saratoga meet.

I'm sure Janet is just prepping this horse for a future steeplchase race.

But I wouldn't let a 134 year old stat deter me from contributing $10
into the parimutual win pool for a race at this distance.

So whomever has a winning ticket on this race and its not the :7: that wins .
This 16oz Bud's on me........................ :D

It is a 1m 1/8 track, so yes, obviously.

Interesting

as expected Veiled Prophet was scratched off of 4days rest.

Sumo, Ea stay IN off of 7 days rest

and BRIDGE LOAN the Pletcher favorite = VET SCRATCH

who is your key? Jacobson entry or Sumo?
or neither :confused::eek::confused:

have horses coming off of xdays rest of: 7,7,11,12,268 days rest, among others, in this field going 2 miles and 3 turns. : )

I like Sumo here to win.

IMO a good test for Rosario. If he can ease his way on or to the lead he'll be in very good shape. May see a tongue tie on Sumo as well.

I would like the :4: Tap Attack if there were more moisture in the track. Ea is coming off the shortest of rests.
My pick.....Sumo Has distance in his pedigree.
What surprises me is how there could be such a short priced horse( Entry) in a tough race to handicap.

oh well. Sumo cooked after 10f..
Even with the 28 second quarter into the clubhouse turn the second time.
Ok...They ran the second mile in 1:49 and change...The last 6f in 1:21...
Sheesh.
Ea looks like he could be seen in the BC Marathon....

In all seriousness, Ea did look pretty good at the end.

Shockingly, a Pletcher horse was vet scratched along with two other stewards scratches that pretty much ruined the race.

I have a question regarding reasons for a horse to be scratched.
I understand "trainer" and "vet" scratches.
For what reason(s) will the Stewards declare a horse scratched?

I would think it usually has to do with eligibility or paperwork.

Only revisiting this thread because the 1 day I go to Saratoga last year, they throw that 2 Mile Dirt race at me, my one day this year (8/1) they throw not 1 but 2 Steeplechase races at me. Maybe next year I can catch a 3mile Ostrich race :bang:

They run steeplechase races at Saratoga every year, hardly a surprise. They also have well established form lines, not like you're shooting blind.

Personally, I'd love to be at Saratoga on 8/1/13..can't wait to watch from home!
Sheppard all the way, hit some of my best scores w/ his turf talent!

I know they do and I actually like watching them, just hesitant on putting money on them. Hard enough when there isn't anything in the way much less a dozen bushes :) Most likely will throw a couple of DD combos and enjoy. I just found it funny that 3 of the past 4 trips to Saratoga had an "odd" race on the card.
