They are currently 36-73, a .330 winning percentage. That means they are on track to go 54-108 this year.
Coupled with last year, that will mean 214 losses in a 2 year span.
Since beating the Padres 1-0 on June 27, they are 4-30, a .118 winning percentage.
In July, they went 3-24, a .111 winning percentage, the fifth worst month in baseball history

Here are the four teams with a worse month, and how they did:
1988 Orioles- 1-23 in April (.041), 54-107 season
1916 A's- 2-28 in July (.067), 36-117 season (worst season in history)
1982 Twins- 3-26 in May (.103), 60-102 season
1943 A's- 3-26 in August (.103), 49-105 season

So the Astros, based on history and their current playing, are all but guaranteed to lose 100 games. And with their move into the way tougher AL West next year, 2013 could be a lot, lot worse.

They're basically fielding a minor league team so I'm not surprised. Their rebuilding approach doesn't impress me either. May be years before they have a respectable team.

Astros and Cubs both might lose 100 games this year

Watched the Giants manhandle the Rockies in Denver this weekend.

The Giants are not the strongest of first placed teams, but Colorado made them look good.
Rockies' pitching is awful, with everything else mediocre, at best.
The Cubs (as bad as they are) will win more games than the Rockies.

Yeah, they're already short on hitters and now they have to add a dh.

At this point, the Astros aren't chasing the Cubs. They're chasing history.

Drayton McLane whittled the payroll to nil to sell them at value.....worst move was making Ed Wade the GM....horrible moves & trades, but from the outside in I have to wonder if McLane was pulling a string or two there.

When it comes to all time bad doesn't the original NY Mets have to top the list? As there manager said about them "doesn't anyone here know how to play this game".

Poor Roger Craig. Lost 46 games in his first two seasons with the 62-62 Mets. Had a 3.78 ERA in 1963, but posted 5-22 record. Nolan Ryan had a simular experience with the Astros. Won the National League ERA title with an 8-16 record. Astros had some really good pitchers over the years playing for some really lousy teams.

Well tonight they fired their manager and two coaches. Not surprised. You cant win with A ball talent in the majors.

Its funny, the Triple A team here was playing extremely well. I think they reached 18 games over 500. But then, the Astros played so bad they had no choice but to call up most of the team. Now, neither can win a game!

This might be apocryphal, but their catcher in those early years was Choo-Choo Coleman. Supposedly, Ralph Kiner was interviewing him and he asked him, "Choo-Choo, what's your wife's name?", to which Choo-Choo replied, "MRS. COLEMAN."

Now they took the manager too.

Not exactly a textbook style of rebuilding with these Astros. Wholesale cleansing year-round and finally management gets the hook.
Wouldn't be surprised to see more to follow.

They were not going to win with the group they had and decided to to blow up the team getting rid of vets for prospects(lottery tickets). If a few of these pan out and the high draft picks come thru, they will be back. Unfortunately, it is probably 3 years away.

That's funny, the Reds are the exact opposite. They are one of the best teams in the MLB, while their AAA team the Louisville Bats are a stellar 50-80, worst record in the league. Cinci probably shouldn't call anybody up :D.

Houston lost again today to St. Louis, 13-5. They're now 39-86, 37 games behind Cincinnati, and on track to go 51-111 (three games worse than when this thread was started).

Here's the wacked out thing, though. On May 26, the Astros woke up at 22-23, one game below .500, and just 3 games out in the NL Central. Since then, they've gone 17-62, a .215 winning percentage. To put that in perspective, the gap between them and the Marlins (who have the second worst record in the NL over that span) is the same as the one between the Marlins and the Pirates- and the Pirates are 13 games over .500 during that time!

Another weird thing. They won their 30th game of the year on June 24th, defeating the Indians 7-1. Two months later, they still have not won their 40th game!

This team is one for the history books, folks.

I was shocked as hell when someone said they had 4 run lead on the Cards today.
I'm sitting watching the 4th at Saratoga on my lunch break, and then I heard "Oops....here comes St. Louis"
13-5 Cardinals - final.

No doubt about it, these Astros are in a class of their own.

The commentary on their telecast here locally is interesting in that they speak more about anything other than the game at hand. They're almost as uninterested in the game as anyone else in the country. :bang:

The Astros are on pace to win 50 games. To give you an idea of how bad they are, the Cubs would be in last place in every other division in MLB. And the Astros are 9.5 games behind them.

There is one downside to having them slink from the National to the American League: there will be an interleague game every day, I think, unless off-days on any given day line up. Other than that, good riddance.

Marshall,

watching on tv for awhile, i would doubt they had 10k butts in the seats.

can't blame them....good baseball town, Houston.... only a fool pays prices MLB teams charge to watch really bad baseball.

Just 6 months until the big college pre-conference tournament at Minute Maid & good baseball returns to Hou

But even they aren't selling out like they used to. I know a guy who has season tickets at Wrigley and he's had a tough time basically giving tickets away on StubHub. And next year doesn't figure to be much better. And no Astros in the NL Central. That was one team they could beat.

Right, but it is still laughable that they consistently draw over 25,000 people each and every night.
