I can't remember the last time I bet Emerald Downs.
Every now and then, though, it's running on TVG in the background while I'm looking elsewhere.
Lately, I always seem to notice a rider named Eliska Kubinova bringing home yet another winner there.

Looking at her stats on BRIS, I see she is riding at 19% for the meet with around 300 mounts. In her past 18 rides, she put across 8 winners. Awesome!
Turns out she is a 23 year old from the Czech Republic, and still claims a 5 pound bug allowance (not sure how long she has left with that).
Maybe a bigger circuit lies ahead?
Best of luck to her!

Sounds like a tennis player.

Anyway, since we're giving out names of promising female jocks, I'll give a thumbs-up to Sarah Rook, who's been riding quite well on the Md. circuit & was 6th leading rider in wins at Colonial.

Best of luck to her!

Emerald Downs riding sensation Kubinova shifts tack to Hollywood Park

Eliska Kubinova, a riding sensation this year at Emerald Downs and Portland Meadows, was scheduled to make her Hollywood Park debut Sunday aboard Valeria in the 9TH race for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs. Kubinova, a 23-year-old from Jesenik in the Czech Republic, spent three years in a Prague riding school before her wanderlust took over. She did some traveling in Europe and then accepted an opportunity to be an exchange student at Syracuse University. After six months in New York, she wanted to see more of the United States and left for Seattle. Her love of horses brought her to Emerald Downs, where she started getting on horses in the morning. Within a year she got her first mount and three rides later picked up her first victory on September 10, 2011. Kubinova went on to Portland Meadows, where she quickly caught on and posted 66 winners, but it was at Emerald Downs earlier this year where she really took off. Kubinova wound up winning 76 races, an Emerald record for an apprentice, from 416 mounts. She also had 71 seconds and 61 thirds, meaning her mounts were in the money an even 50 percent of the time. Now the the travel bug has struck again, and she was especially curious to see California, Los Angeles in particular. Shy by nature, Kubinova began wandering around the backstretch asking trainers to work some horses. Her agent, George Ortuzar, picks up the story. "She was working horses and was a complete unknown," said Ortuzar, who doubles as promotions director at Hollywood Park. "Several riders were talking and asking 'who is that cute jockey?' I went up and introduced myself and asked if she had an agent. I agreed to represent her and now she's been working horses for some top barns such as Julio Canani, John Shirreff and Paula Capestro."

I was betting some races at EMD recently (a few months ago) and noticed that this Kubinova was winning a ton of races, so, naturally i felt she must be talented. I watched her ride and while she wins a ton of races, i think she needs a little more work, she didnt seem as polished as some other top apprentices, her 'seat' seems a bit 'odd' for lack of better words. The jockey competition at EMD is very weak, so she's going to be riding against some real jocks now, big step up in class, good luck to her, you always like to see a young jock do some good!
