So tell me again why we spend hours studying past performances?

Seems kind of silly when you've got juiced up horses running at every track. Makes me want to find another hobby and quit wasting my time on horse racing.

They'll never stop it either. The cheaters will just find some other drug.

This question is getting more and more difficult to answer, as time goes by...

Six or eight years ago a guy was stopped in Kansas City and had in his car about 30 or so frogs. The police seemed to believe it was a hippie-pyschedelic type of thing going down and apparently it was prosecuted as a drug crime. (supposedly you can trip after licking a certain frog's back.)

On reflection, given the proximity to The Woodlands, one has to wonder just what those frogs were really for.

8 years ago? So how much money do you think bettors on this sport have lost in the last 8 years because of this drug? Guarantee you every one of us posting here has lost money because of this drug.

What is amazing about this is the success rate. It basically had a 100% success rate for those 11 horses the guy is talking about in the first post because the 2 that lost, lost to other horses that were on this stuff.

Here's another article about it from the New York Times. Over 30 horses have tested positive for this stuff in recent weeks.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/06/20/sports/horse-racing-discovers-new-drug-problem-one-linked-to-frogs.html

Really considering cutting way back on my horse race betting. Such a turnoff. We are just wasting our time and money if we are honest with ourselves. It's probably a miracle or luck when we get a race right.

The names of the quarter horses that were juiced on this drug can be found in this article if anybody wants to go over to equibase and look up the horse and look at the chart of the race.

“This is a tough issue,” said Edward J. Martin, president of Racing Commissioners International, a trade association for racing regulators. “It’s a cat-and-mouse game. As soon as you call out dermorphin, they will try something else. That is the daily battle that goes on.”

Lapile Creek is actually running today at Evangeline in the 2nd race at 6:05 pm Central Time.

Evangeline Entries (http://www.equibase.com/static/entry/EVD080812USA-EQB.html#RACE2)

His first race since being shot up with the Dermorphin. 7-2 in the morning line.

Haven't looked at his opponents at all but for some strange reason, I have a feeling Lapile Creek is not going to be as strong today as he was in his last race.

Possibly some value in the race on some of the others. Again, I haven't looked at it at all. Just saying I'd go against based on him being on drugs last time and not today probably. Not to mention the long layoff.

He's also a 5 yr old that is 2 for 23 lifetime and he just barely got up when he was on the drug last time. Same level today, 3500 claimers.

Going shorter this time though from 6 furlongs to 5 furlongs.

Here's an article from Bill Finley (NY Times , ESPN) about a trainer who was busted for Aramine (a stimulant) 13 yrs ago and was just busted again for Dermorphin recently.

This sport is corrupt and has been for a long, long time. I'm kind of pissed I wasted so much of my life studying this game and playing it. All the books and everything else I read are meaningless when there is a juiced horse in the race.

I am talking, of course, about the frog juice or dermorphin positives in multiple states. Licensees who have been suspended in Louisiana are continuing to train their horses. Frog juice positives in New Mexico from more than two months ago have yet to have formal complaints filed. Additional cases in Oklahoma, Texas, and Nebraska have not been made public, and I’m starting to wonder if they ever will. And no one knows how many other states have either decided not to test for the hideous Class 1 drug or have “warned” their horsemen they will soon begin testing for it, as a certain “keystone” state has done in the past with other substances.
[snip]
There is only one way forward, and that is to eliminate the all-encompassing power of state racing commissions. Whether it is through federal legislation that will mandate medication, drug testing and penalty guidelines (and then leave it up to the states to enforce the rules) or through the creation of a national oversight board, this is the only kind of change that will work.

Going from state to state and begging these regulatory “gnomes,” as former Churchill Downs CEO Tom Meeker once referred to them, is a recipe for continuing failure.

And your last sentence isn't true. Just because there may be a juiced horse in the race, doesn't mean there isn't still money to be made.

Talk to anybody that knows anything about gambling and they'll tell you the takeout alone on horse racing is almost impossible to beat. And if you think you can beat it when one or two out of every 10 races you're betting on (guesstimate) have drugged up horses in them, then GO FOR IT and GOOD LUCK.

In my opinion at least, you're dreaming.

And I've made 19 posts here. I'm not living here. Most of those posts are in this thread. I still like talking about horse racing. I just know there is no way I'm going to beat this game long term.
