Good stake at DelMar today.
Amazombie, Comma to the Top, and the Factor butt heads at 6f.
Comma coming off two grass sprints, Amazozmbie off almost three months rest, and the Factor off a one race prep at 7 off a 3+ month vacation.
Comma and The Factor have bothwon over the Del Mar poly, Amazombie stalked the pace in this race last year, off only 29 days and ended up third. He's had three nice 6f works and a 4f blowout 3 days ago. He is 1-0-2 from 3 6f poly so this might be too short for his best.
Comma won off a 166 day layoff at 5f on turf, where he lost ground in the stretch, than came back in three weeks and may have reacted to the effort out of the box. Now, 50 days since his return, he might be ready to move ahead. He is 2 for 3 on 6f poly races.
The Factor. I have concerns - he repeated the pattern from last year, coming back from a layoff in a 7f race, running, at the time, a new pace top and then fading badly in his figs. Last time, he came back at 6 and ran out of the money. At low odds, this is not building any confidence in him today.
Can one of the outsiders upset in here?
Going to do a lot of digging over the next few hours.
