Steroids and Home Runs

Baseball fans might be interested in a paper by UC-Irvine professor, Arthur De Vany, entilted " Steroids and Home Runs".

The paper is well written, rather easy to follow and quite interesting. His ideas are basic and informative ( I agree with his analysis and think he is correct in his conclusions).

i don't have time at this moment to read

but it looks like they are examining steroids and power hitting(home run specific?) and saying paraphrase "steroids don't work" and the "variance is explained by math"

[aside - this reminds me of a paper that "proved" that free throw shooters do not get hot or cold.]

Assuming the paper was well done, it was a great job "disproving" a universal "truth", that was shrouded with enough mystery and enough of a limited experience of the public/academia that it can fly. Should be in the pharmaceutical business.

Steroids and the related PEDs (HGH etc..) have a marked effect. They truly enhance performance. Golfers, tennis players, NBA players "everyone", every sport and from both sexes has joined in, and it's not for the mental placebo effect.

Simple physics. Add 25lbs of muscle to an athlete(and the resulting increase in strength), without a reduction in speed(often an increase in speed).
