View Full Version : 2012: What Software Are You Using?

JimG
07-26-2012, 01:09 PM
Rather than do a poll this year, since there are so many horse racing software applications and I could leave one out, please let us know what software program you are using, if any, to assist in your handicapping?

Please reply with the program you are currently using and any other information you would like to share about its use. If you are affiliated with the software that you use, please advise so. Let's keep it within PA's TOS. Thanks for your time.

It's very interesting seeing so many are using RDSS. I wonder how many saw my post over at Pace n Cap last year, where I gave out a 100+ winner and a 800+ exacta. Of course, none of the RDSS users felt the need to congratulate me.

Wonder why that is?

Nothing wrong with paper and pencil and the DRF, I use the computer to speed up the process and cut down on calculation time, and human type "figuring" errors.

Whatever works, stick to it!

Pen and DRF, with a bit of Excel to help with some calculations. I'm about 6 months away from taking the plunge into software... need to have the appropriate amount of time to devote to learning the software when I get there. The choice of software is going to be tough I think....

I primarily use PaceAppraiser & RDSS with the older versions of Synergism 2,3 or 4. There are certain features in all of the aforementioned software applications that I use in my handicapping process.
RDSS is emerging as a very significant application. Ted Craven is very sincere in his efforts to produce software that wins for his users. There are some very strong innovations that Ted is currently working on that will further improve his software. They will be released for the immediate future.

PaceAppraiser has always been the standard for me because I achieved notable and proven success with it. The Randy Giles Methodology is very strong. Randy has been a good friend for years and is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of dealing with.

In my opinion, the older versions of Synergism are probably the best series of software to come out of the Sartin era. Bob Purdy's masterful programming was years ahead of it's time. As well, his latest version is not to be ignored. It's a very formidable piece of work. As well, Bob is the consummate gentleman.

we were in contact years ago, about the fred davis method. you told me at 4-1 odds or so the top picks were good, if i remember correctly.
i must say the fred davis method put alot of discipline in my betting, making sure i was getting percieved value. was never able to show a significant profit in the years i used it, but it gave me alot of hours of entertainment, and saved me alot of money on poor bets.

I assume the software doesn't keep you from betting into races that have poor value, but rather, your minimum odds requirement does that? I believe that any software that produces decent contenders, and, keeps you from betting into poor value races, perceived or not, is a good piece of software, and with a little work by the user, can become profitable long term. It's a case of the user learning when is the appropriate time to bet and when it's wise to pass. That's what RS does, it gives you good contenders and tells you when to bet and when to pass.

WELL, THIS PRODUCT IS A LIFE CHANGER FOR ME. HOW? FOR THE FIRST TIME I FEEL IN CONTROL OF THE GAME. THAT IS, CONFIDENCE I FEEL. THAT DOES NOT MEAN I DON'T LOSE BETS. I AM STILL ANALYZING 200 RACES PLAYED SINCE LEARNING THIS TOOL. BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS:

DISCOVERED BY DAVE SCHWARTZ AND HIS TEAM, WITH THIS ODDS LINE, FOR THE FIRST TIME I AM ACTUALLY MAKING A FEW CENTS ON A DOLLAR. YES. I WANT TO THANK YOU DAVE. YOU KNOW I PLAY AUSTRALIAN RACING AND UK DUE TO TIME ZONE DIFFERENCES. BUT RENEGADE DOES NOT CARE. IT WORKS.

AS DAVE IN HIS TUTORIAL, ROBUST CONTENDER SELECTION IS A MUST TO MAKE THIS TOOL POWERFUL. THAT TAKES A LITTLE TIME BUT IMPROVISED NEW PACE AND SEMI DECENT SPEED FIGURES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO BETTER THAN BREAKEVEN. I AM EXCITED FOR BETTER RESULTS THAN I M GETTING NOW. KUDOS TO U AND YOUR TEAM.

These are the tools in my box, and I use them all, including HSH, which gets better and better, as Dave keeps improving it.

RDSS, is very colorful, helpful for my older eyes, and fun to use, but also very accurate when used consistently.

Paceappraiser.com is the least used tool in my box, but during the winter I will take it out and tune it up, so please stay tuned for further info on it. But yet the hcLab tool is totally awesome!

That is my updated software usage, maybe too much, but each program is very very good, and we know Dave and Ted are always improving on the great stuff they have and both should be commended for it.

As for Randy, he too has created a great tool in the hcLab, very easy and fun to use.

Can someone enlighten me as to what RDSS is please?

Thanks!

Kentrg,

RDSS is a Sartin Methodology program, based on the later works of Dr Howard Sartin. It uses compounded velocity, deceleration measurement, and running style analysis to look at all the segments of a race, so, not just a 'pace' methodology, though Sartin has been called the father of pace analysis. It includes all the earlier work from MPH (Modern Pace Handicapping by Brohamer), Pace Makes the Race by Hambleton, Schmidt, Pizzolla, Sartin, energy exertion, deceleration and the Matchup.

You can learn all you want to about RDSS here: www.SartinMethodology.com, including a free 30 day trial.
