That is awesome. Especially like the idea of having mobile betting so you don't have to wait in line. Good move.

i would push that to the hilt. they are now going to get a bigger attendance. at least they are going to get the gate and concession money with that move. there are probably plenty people out there that have a lap-top and no smart phone like myself that bet horses on the internet and have stayed home for that reason.

i am going to show up August 4th and then come back next week and spend the whole weekend for the sale.

Kudos to Saratoga for this step!

Now if other tracks would just follow their lead maybe they could get a few more patrons to come to the track more often!

Some have - I know Woodbine and Arlington have free wi-fi but neither advertises it much.

Of course, I was at an OTB the other day here in IL....the manager came over to me to tell me "computers are not allowed in the OTB". My thought - "neither will people soon..." So dumb. They are so afraid of internet betting as if by not allowing computers people will not bet via the 'net and instead bet at the OTB.

Dumb asses - people will simply stay home.

Is the WiFi just for betting purposes, or for surfing the internet, checking e-mail, etc?

WiFi allows users access to the internet. Whether NYRA will block certain sites is a mystery. I doubt NYRA would do that.

Wait, this can't be an official NYRA thread -- no one has bashed it yet.

Let me try: This is a transparent attempt by NYRA to get people to come to the track. No, that's no good.
How about: NYRA is only doing this because people want it?
What, only 50 access points? Why not 100?
I bet they block all the porn sites.
You mean to actually bet with NYRA, I have to give them my personal info?
If they really cared about their patrons, they'd give away iPads.
It's too damn hot.

At a cost of $175K, they're unsure if they'll do similarly @ BEL & AQU.

You get a debit card at a teller, load on loot, and use this app.

curious which otb this was and who told you? If an Arlington- or Hawthorne-controlled OTB that is quite surprising because I've used laptop/ipad at many of those places and on-track. If a harness-controlled OTB I can't speak on their behalf..

Doesn't everyone have a data plan on their phone now? Don't see the big deal. Who the hell wants to bring a laptop to freakin Saratoga?

To each his own. You really would be amazed at the many who think differently.

Shouldn't they? I don't know how I'd handle this matter.

I added "betting" to your quote.

Who would want to try to read a PP on a freaking small cell phone screen?

I wouldn't be able to play without one.

I cannot imagine handicapping on a phone.

An iPad, maybe - especially if it was connecting to my software which was running at home. (Yes, you can do that.)

Hi Dave,
Are you using Go to My PC?

Shouldn't they? I don't know how I'd handle this matter.

Every track I've been to that had wifi blocked betting sites. First, I think that's perfectly fine, and it's what I'd do if I owned a track. In my opinion, you're there, using their real estate, you should bet through them. Second, if you really want to get around the security measures, there are plenty of ways.

When I go to the track though, I always bet through the track. Thus giving me a way to play through my laptop, so I don't have to go wait in line each time I want to bet, will definitely increase my play.

You don't handicap on your phone, but you place your bets on your phone. I've been doing it at the track for years.

But how do you handicap without a laptop?

His question was about who would want to bring a laptop to Saratoga?

Great! Now if the others would follow their example.
