your harness racing dbs. Here is a sample of the kind of stuff I can do: Which driver does best riding the favorite?

First let me say that my db is incomplete and spotty. This is only a taste of what is possible with harness hosses.

Chris Boring 4 for 4 on favorites
Jordan Myers 4 for 4 on favorites
and several more

Gerry Mattison 6 for 6

Stephen Condren 8 for 9
Robert Tisbert 8 for 7

William Parker Jr 16 for 26
John Stark Jr 27 for 45
Roger Culpepper 19 for 32

anyone have any suggestions ?

and Keith Kash is 1 for 65 on the favorite
Dennis W Duford is 1 for 63

Where do you get your data from ?

heres a neat one, when John Stark Jr rides for John Stark Jr (trainer), on the favorite he wins 68.75%

and when Ted S McDonald rides for Sebastian Giroux on horses other than the favorite they win 47%

Those are interesting queries , what database program do you use ?

and some trainers do well with one or more sires, for instance,

John Darling uses Northern Luck for a 47% win rate

and Edgar Clarke uses Key Prospect for a 46% win rate

and Paul Blumenfed uses Sokys Atom (damn if I know why) and is 0fer32, while
William Companion uses Run the table while maintain a 0fer 33 win rate

Did you know that babies of Village Connect (Sire) and Bred Hanover (damsire) win 41% of all races while Threefold and NoNukes product 39% winners.

Some combinations who I hope had fun since they cant run worth a poot:

Shipps PUrser and Slapstick ofer32 and ColeMuffler and Meadow Skipper ofer41

One of his 8 victors was in a Handicap race. His handicap was the victor was counted more than once

Are there many sharpie's out there in the harness game ?

A good set of figs / angles should be very useful.

my thoughts precisely

Just look at this thread, not a single mention of a data base for Harness horses, cept mine.

a few of my buddies do it. stuff like that is nice to know. but the key to harness is form. not quantifiable

by the way, drivers drive! no riding in harness.

about your stats, do you find comparable examples for the flats? most of those guys--i don't follow canadian racing much but i think condron is the exception--ride primarily on the small tracks, which generally have high% of winning faves to begin with. could be more likely statistically for these examples to pop up. just a thought

True, a lot of guys use them. As someone mentioned in another thread, a horse's ability to maintain speed over a key portion of the mile is key. this can differ from track to track, many guys follow the last half mile, middle half, first/last 3/4, etc. although i do know one guy who seems to do well making figures for the whole mile.

This db is not limited to drivers, sires and trainers. It includes all the the past performance stuff as well. I do not think I am wasting my time, though I did not expect to raise such tepid support.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. If stats work for you, that's great. i think of them as an accompanying dish rather than the main meal, but that's me.

honestly, the only stats i would like to have are detention records for trainers at m1. maybe i'll try to figure out a way to do it this year.

For me, the driving colony at The Meadowlands is so close that keeping stats on drivers is useless (to me).. There is little variance among the top 5-7 drivers there that any one of them can get a superior horse home.

I think many people forget that even if you have a fantastic trainer and driver, you still have to have the horse. And conversely, a sharp horse placed well can be driven home by even a mediocre driver (which is when we catch most of our double digit horses)

Is there any medoicre driver there who has a great roi with this type ? ex. Jim Morrill ?

in recent years silverman has been the standout in this dept, he's moved out though. i think i heard he'll be back in the spring

by the way i'm not a huge morrill fan but i wouldn't call him mediocre. silverman not on the same level but i would actually say the same for him. but he has showed a + roi.

Silverman went up to Canada while the BigM was closed and was super.. He showed the big difference between BigM and Canadian drivers..

I thought he was going down to Pompano to race fulltime, but I haven't seen him there..

Morrill has some talent, but really wrecked his career with the whole Freehold incident.. (Along with Brennan ruining his career)
