I unplug everything except frig and wow my bill went down to $77 from normal of $120. The delivery is still $45 of that total, which is silly.

Still can't believe it.

Where do you live Alaska? Or do you just not use air conditioning?

My college son living off campus did the same. He and his room mates plug most everything into power strips and turn all off when they leave. They reduced their monthly bill almost 70 percent. They too realized how much the computers, cable boxes, I pod chargers gobble up the juice when they are away.

Like healthcare, we all need power.
Why is it not free?
Why is it not given to everyone?

Here's a tip.

We were away for 2 months. Our utility company sent out a memo awhile back saying if you go away from home a long time the biggest expense you will incur while away is running your refrigerator. So definitely unplug it.

So we did. We emptied it and we put baking soda inside too. What we didn't do and were not advised to do was leave the doors open. We got home to foul smelling mold.

Maybe we should have had enough common sense to leave the doors open but we didn't. It took a couple hours to clean the damn thing out after an 18 trip. :(

So the tip is to leave the refrigerator doors open if you are going to unplug it for a long period of time.

Competition is good for the marketplace. If cussamors had a choice besides the local Public Utility, rates would go down for all.

Mackinbaum has had a heavy foot in the business of commercial deregulation of energy for several years. Here in CA they opened up a small window to heavy commercial users in the last couple o years. Imagine if you will a frenetic mad dash, akin to a land grab in the hhhWild hhWest. I had customers from Walmart to Sears to Fry's to Target to BofA to Wells Fargo and almost every casino throughout the state, amongst oithers, CLAMORING to get in.

Every six months they would have another opening. First come, first serve, VIA EMAIL. Can you imagine? To someone like Fry's (who wanted in desperately) they were looking at saving millions/year, let alone, Walmart. VERY FEW got in. You can only imagine the suspense. They didn't let people know if they got in for two weeks. Brokers looking at six figure/mo boosts in income. Companies looking at saving MILLIONS in energy costs. All on nerve for two weeks every 6 months for 2 years.

After all was said and done I got in a large casino. My account, commissions for life of agreement and that should go all of my lifetime.

Now Mack the Hoople works dereg in Joisey, NY, DC, Illinois. All commercial. Have it set-up so any customer can schedule a live reverse auction where they have utilities bidding for their business.

I always wanted to figure out some way of makin' loot from energy.
