There's speculation that on Wednesday, scientist will all but claim discovery of the Higgs boson. (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_SWITZERLAND_GOD_PARTICLE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-07-02-09-27-46) .

Amazing, absolutely amazing what we have come to understand about particle physics in the last 100 or so years.

Interesting stuff.

First I want to know what mass they came up with for this Higgs boson "god particle"...

Then I want to know what the heck it means :D...

from what i understand, it is the "stuff" that gives mass to particles. sort of like a field of snow, that when things pass through the field of snow, they get the snow (mass).
that's from the yahoo article i read on the "god particle"

They'll be able to confirm that dark matter makes up the majority of the universe. This is matter that contains gravitational influences on practically everything, but has yet to be proven because like black holes, it can't be observed visually.
Thia could be really big news and perhaps reshape our knowledge of the universe, at least a portion of it.

Black holes may not be "proven", but their existence is not questioned by serious scientists. This is extremely "big news". Absolutely amazing.
