I wonder if they had no slots would they cancel?

We are a lot more acclimatized here in this part of the country, and the humidity isn't as bad most of the time.

Well when they do race, field sizes should be a little better.

I was out at LS today. I still don't understand why they don't run all their races in the evening. They run Thurs and Fri in the evening and Sat and Sun in the day. Much cooler and I would be willing to bet that their handle would increase since they wouldn't be competing against all the day running tracks.

It is simple. They are trying to build a fan base by getting families to the races who won't take their kids to the track at night. If you compare the crowd attending during the day to those attending at night, you will see that they are slowly succeeding. We compain that the tracks are doing nothing to attract new fans. When they do, you complain. You can't have it both ways.

You may be right about building a fan base although I've seen some pretty good crowds on Friday nights. I had safety and the heat in mind when I posed the question. From my observations during my track visits this year I believe attendance as a whole has increased. Will have to wait for the final figures at the end of the meet.

If they didn't have the casino they would 100% be running...

It was terribly hot today in this area (I live ~15m east of Parx) today and it seemed much worse than Friday or Saturday; it must have been the increase in humidity. I know they ran at Monmouth this weekend, but it's always 5 degrees cooler by the shore, even more with an on shore wind. They made the right call at Parx, slots or not.

Odd because Harrah's Philadelphia( CHester Downs) raced today.
Of course it's always been accepted that Standardbreds like hot weather.
