Sweet Lou, Thinking Out Loud, Dapper Dude, Time To Roll, Pet Rock, State Treasurer, Mel Mara, Warrawee Needy and Heston Blue Chip are a few of the colts sitting out Saturday’s Max Hempt eliminations at Pocono. Some were staked to it and some were not. On the other hand, the Jim Lynch Memorial, which also kicks off on Saturday, features American Jewel, the undisputed division leader, thanks to Brittany Farms buying in for $15,000. While the trainers of the top finishers in the NA Cup are all giving their charges a blow in anticipation of the Pace, Jimmy Takter is going out of his way to keep Jewel in the mix. Considering the absolutely nasty 48.2 mile she put up at Mohawk, that represents a genuine tribute to her. Last year Takter gave Peelers a month off after her win in the Fan Hanover. She didn’t race again until the Tarport Hap in mid-July.

Some of the fillies absent from the Lynch are Fan Hanover runner up Romantic Moment, third place finisher Big McDeal, Cookie and Podges Lady.

In the first Hempt elimination Verdad, Little Michael B, OneThrough Ten, Social Network and Mc Attaboy are in a little deep. I Fought Dalaw gets away from the iron in the division. He won the 175K NJSS final last year, then a division of the Arden, but he regressed as the year went on and came up short in the Nassagaweya, Metro and BC. This year he’s got his fire back, but he was somewhat overmatched in his Cup elimination against Lou and Needy. He kept up into the last turn but was unable to compete through the stretch. That won’t be the case on Saturday.

Bakin On The Beach has been successful in the PASS, beating Easy Again last time in an 80K pace and finishing second in the Bye Bye Byrd the start before that. David Miller should crush this bunch with Dalaw.

Casie Coleman’s giant Western Ideal filly, Sarandon BlueChip, won the 150K NJSS with ease, then got rough around the last turn as the 3-5 favorite in her Fan Hanover elimination. She should win here pretty easily if David Miller can hold her together.

Major Look is an Art Major filly who is three for three in the NYSS this year. She’s beaten Jewel and Cookie. She's something of a giant killer.

Darena is a good PASS filly.

Gottaseeaboutagirl won the Simpson and has money on her card but she’s no Sarandon.

In the second Hempt elimination, I Like Dreamin and Mcerlean are both very good PASS colts. Easy Again and Hillbilly have been in a little deep with the Cup crowd.

Hurrikane Kingcole is the flavor of the week. Two weeks ago he broke before the start of his Cup elimination and made up a ton of ground, and in the Rooney he was too far back on the small track and couldn’t make up the deficit. Luc Ouellette took this colt on some hellacious journeys last year. He’s got that Cams Card Shark speed but hasn’t been able to harness and focus it. He won the Nassagaweya and a Matron elimination along with several low level 2YO races last season. Tetrick should be able to hold him together and beat this bunch.

The second division of the Lynch is stronger overall. Jewel should have no problem, but there are several good fillies in here. EconomyTerror drew the nine in the Fan final, and the seven in her first start of 2012. She has the rail here. She won the BC, Countess Adios and PASS final last year, in addition to chasing Jewel around. Last week in the Fan Hanover final Sears left from the nine with her, dropped in fourth and was first up to the half. All she could do in that 48.2 mile was mark time. Jewel is much better.

In the third division of the Hempt A Rocknroll Dance and Simply Business have an opportunity to live up to the hype. Takter has been touting Business for some time, and while his ten post draw in the Cup doomed him from the start, he has the rail here. Bolt The Duer, who won the Simpson, then made the mile in the Rooney only to get beat by Pet Rock, has the two. His connections passed on the SBSW and Cup, which may help him here. A Rocknroll Dance, who left from the outside and pushed Needy to a 25.1 quarter in the Cup, has the four. Dance and Simply Business are one for nine between them.
