I cant find a good answer. Please help. Also there was confusion about
bringing Lava Man to Belmont along with IHA ? Sigh. Thanks for any insights.

Putting a horse that you are trying to earn a record paycheck with into a barn of strange smells, noises can be an experiment that can go horribly wrong. Some might loose weight, get colicy, or get cast in the new stall. It can just be a bad thing.

But they ship into there own shedrow. A barn that is cleaned with new bedding and a place for all the stuff that is needed to run the show. Within a couple of days after they settle in you figure out who needs moved and where and why and create a horse condo. Some horses handle it in stride, some hate it. The detention barn is just like shipping in to a receiving barn in that you can't pick your neighbors and you can't yell at them to keep the noise down or their horse quiet.

But they ship into there own shedrow.O'Neil doesn't have his own barn at NYRA...and yes, there are some inherent disadvantages with the detention barn, but "barn of strange smells, noises" isn't going to be anything different than when they first shipped into Belmont...

That strange smell was the State Wagering board.
They needed to pretend they are relevant so they grandstanded.
The needed to re-enforce the idea that racing is crooked and we need to be protected......but only for one race.

When I would go to either Chicago or Minnesota to run in stakes we always preferred to stay with someone else rather than shipping into the receiving barn.
O'Neill does not have his own barn, yes, but staying with someone you know is easier. Chicago plays no games with their race day detentions.
