The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, by a 7-5 vote with one abstention June 13, approved an administrative regulation that would ban the use of furosemide on race-day in graded and listed stakes over a three-year period beginning Jan. 1, 2014.

A quick look at the regulation shows this may effect graded and listed stakes for older horses as early as mid-2015.

Effective January 1, 2015 and thereafter, furosemide shall not be administered less than twenty-four (24) hours prior to post time for the race in which the horse is entered to any horse of the 2012 and 2013 foal crops that is entered in any graded or listed stakes race or to any other horse of any age that is entered to compete in a graded or listed stakes race against a horse of the 2012 or 2013 foal crops;
The presence of a horse who cannot receive lasix means nobody in the race can get it.

It's nice that the HKJC is on board with the plan, I hope that they are prepared to ship horses in when everyone else is shipping out.
