Less then a week to go!

I probably should have waited till the six day declarations were announced (tomorrow) but I'm impatient.

I don't know if, as far as Day 1 goes, the Queen Anne is the race people are most excited about (Frankel) but the one I can't wait for is the King's Stand. Ortensia, Little Bridge, Bated Breath, Joy and Fun... a stellar international field and a great betting race.

How the fields are shaping up for Day 1:

Golden Lilac is out (just announced) of the Prince of Wales's Stakes and Stephanie's Kitten (announced a couple of days ago) will miss the Coronation.

Just for fun here's Black Caviar on the gallops at Newmarket the other day:

Here are the latest futures odds in the UK on Royal Ascot.
Some fascinating races.

In addition to Frankel and Black Caviar, I'm really looking forward to seeing if Aidan O'Brien can have Fame and Glory ready to defend his Gold Cup title.

Those three horses will be too heavily favored to bet, but well worth watching.

I already have my bet on the exchanges at 2-1 she'll be defeated.

This may be treason...but can Black Caviar be defeated? We know she will be overbet,

There are a number of reasons you might want to oppose her.
Her odds are miniscule, she's racing on a different continent, and she is facing horses that she has never met before.

That being said, Moody is a top class trainer, who will leave little to chance.
She should be very close to 100%, even after such a long journey.
Sprint form in Australia is, generally, very strong.
Their horses have competed well abroad before, and Black Caviar is the best they have had.

Is it likely she gets beaten next week? No.
Possible? You bet......

Good luck!

Is it Frankel that runs tomorrow first thing, or Black Cav?

Frankel, BC's race is on Saturday, although many in that race will also race in the Kings Stand tomorrow.

This may be treason...but can Black Caviar be defeated? We know she will be overbet,

if she'd been a 8-12 furlong filly coming in against the locals, the chances of her getting turned over probably would have been good .but the euros are their usual weak selves in the 5-6 furlong divison at the minute , so opposing her surely has to be madness .

I have a small bet on Excelebration.....but Frankel looks great.

Destroys them by about 12, unbelievable that might be his best effort yet. Lets see what the Timeform people say.

Frankel could have moonwalked over that competition and win.

I also found a BBC Radio stream which is covering this live (and they are talking more about road traffic than this. The one good comment I heard was, one guys mentions Black Caviar and says "Could they meet? and the other guy responds: They could MATE...lol) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/horse-racing/18498879

Strong Suit has run in BC races, and as well is a winner at Ascot before. Excelebration is top quality horse, but Frankel is THAT good I guess.

Excelebration, Strong Suit and Helmut were G1 winners. In the last 7 races, Excelebration won a G1/G2/G3, the other 4 he ran into Frankel

Rest of the races are not going to be as exciting .... anyway here are my thoughts

race 2 (King's Stand) .... I expect two of three clusters of pace, the main one in the centre around Tangerine Trees, which will be ideal for the horses around him.

I have good ratings for the HK raiders, and will go for Little Bridge who is drawn in the middle. Also E/W on Caledonia Lady.

Nice open race.

race 3 (St James' Palace) .... I thought Power was impressive in the Irish Guineas, 7/2 is fair. One to keep an eye on is Cogito @ 20/1. He was impressive on debut, and then in his next race accelerated impressively on the Sandown hill, which is something you only see once or twice a year.

race 4 (Coventry) .... The Godolphin horse Artigiano is being ignored here, not sure why. 20/1 is a good price. Baddilini worth a few pounds E/W at 100/1. My main win selection is Englishman 10/1.

race 5 (Ascot Stakes) .... I am not good in these races long races full of jumpers. I gave Dark Ranger a high rating for his last race, so I will pick him at 11/1.

race 6 (Windsor Castle) .... Lyric Ace at 9/2. My nap, I guess.

If it wasn't for Frankel, Excelebration would have quite the record. In his last 11 starts he won 6 and finished second to Frankel 5 times.

I believe the plan is still for his finale to be the Classic

It depends on how the rest of the season goes, I guess. If it goes to schedule, probably not. They want to race him over 10F in the second half of the season, which rules out the Mile and Turf. It it doesn't work out and he gets beaten, they could turn back to the Mile distance, or who knows, even try him in the Classic.

They have never stated this.
Breeders' Cup has been mentioned, with reservation.
The prospect of travelling to Southern California that late in the year is remote.

Post race quote from trainer:

Cecil said: "It's relief, I'm not surprised but relieved. "There's no such thing as a certainty.
He is a great horse and you've seen him for yourself so everybody can form their own opinion.

"He did exactly what I thought but he's still improving, Tom said he's still improving.
He looks as if he'll stay a mile and a quarter so we'll leave our options open.

"He's in the Eclipse, he's in the Sussex, he's in the Juddmonte and the two races at the end of the year.
He'll tell me what to do next, I don't tell him.

"It's very unlikely he'll go to the Breeders' Cup."

In the 5th at Royal Ascot. Ryan Moore sits absolutely chilly on the rail gets the horse out at the top of the stretch and explodes to the front and hangs on well.
Brilliant ride. Strike for the Irish.

He was a bit quiet after coming back from injury but he seems to be approaching his best level again.

Love Moore, esp on 10-1 shots or better. Reminds me a bit of R. Baze, he has a knack for getting longshots to hit the board. And of course he is solid on shorter priced horses in the big races too (betting him to win today in R3, #2). All around one of the nest jocks in the world IMO.
