Larry and Tom.

While I'm well aware it's a very small part of the big picture.

I was really interested in hearing how they both called this race.

I found myself getting nervous for them. Also have spent that last week or so wondering how I'd do what I'd want to say.

Must be incredibly deflating for them both.

Yeah, what an honor to call the (possible) triple crown winner!

Sigh, a lot of people feel deflated, including me. I sure didn't expect it. I'm sure my mouth was on the floor.

Better this than " ...And its I'll Have Another languishing far behind the field..."

much better than "something's gone wrong with I'll Have Another, he's being pulled up"

All I know is Tom would've probably said, "34 YEARS IN THE MAKING!" during the stretch run;)

Whoa what a love fest for Tom. Is anyone here allowed to make a comment that is not Wine and Roses But wait stop me before I go on.
There is no accounting for taste in Automobiles, Movies. Men and or
Women. That being said there is NO accounting for taste in Announcers
of Sporting Events.
Forgive me if I dont join the endless regrets that Mr Durkin will not get
his chance to do what he does. There is also no accounting for posters
on news groups. Harry Henson never got his chance to call a Triple Crown
Race. Amen. Peace out.

Yeah Tom has had a bunch of great calls for us who play NY racing or are here in NY listening to Tom call our races. You don't have to join the "love fest". No one here will force you to be in a thread about Durkin. ;) But for us NY fans and race fans of Tom, it will stink he won't have a chance to make a great call.

I feel bad for Jon White(HRTV) who has said he had a future bet with "I'll Have Another" paying him $3,500.00 if he had won the Belmont. :bang:

The announcer has always been a big part of the race to me. It's the excitement in their voice and emotion that make the race even more memorable.
"And Smarty Jones enters the stretch to the roar of 120,000! But Birdstone is gonna make him earn it today! The whip is out on Smarty Jones! It's been 26 years, it's just one furlong away! Birdstone is an unsung threat! They're coming down to the finish! Can Smarty Jones hold on?! Here comes Birdstone, Birdstone surges past! Birdstone wins the Belmont Stakes! "

Was hoping for drama like this today.
