Well, since I don't know who the harness players are here, let's see what tracks everyone plays..

For me:

Thursday night - Balmoral Park and Meadowlands
Saturday night - Ditto
Sunday Night - Balmoral Park

(And on occasion, Northfield Park and Dover Downs)

Sq,

--I like to play a fair number of of harness tracks. Some of my favorite places to bet are:

1. The Meadowlands

2. Woodbine/Mohawk circuit

3. Balmoral Park

4. Cal Expo

5. The Meadows

6. Pompano Park

--Having said that, I prefer the Friday and Saturday cards at the above tracks, because there are more races scheduled for the better horses.

--I will play the above tracks on their schedules for earlier in the week, but there aren't that many bettable races due to the abundance of cheap claimers, conditioned claimers, NW1, NW2 races etc.

--I rarely play the half-mile harness ovals. Too many short win prices for my liking.

Sq,

I don't think that would John Bothe, would it? After reading John's story, I'm assuming he doesn't bet anymore.

I like Batavia too. Only track I've been where in the clubhouse the bar is situated right on the finish line. You are almost on top of the track while having a brew.....quite different!

Figman,

--Judging by your location, you must not be too far away from Saratoga Raceway.

--Regarding the Saratoga harness track (I believe it's a half-mile oval)...is that near Saratoga Raceway?

Thanks,

Saratoga Harness is 5 minutes from Saratoga Thoroughbred Track. I pulled many doubleheaders in my younger days (in 1987 I spotted Andy Beyer in the grandstand at Saratoga Harness)

Saratoga Raceway has had many names since it opened in 1941 as Saratoga Raceway. For many years it was Saratoga Harness. Its president who died a couple of years ago was really into POLO so he named it the Saratoga Equine Sports Center. Now one of the owners bought out all the others and it is back to its original name, Saratoga Raceway.

It is across the street from the Saratoga Thoroughbred track that is one of the NYRA racetracks. The Raceway opens on January 14th and will run three or four nights a week until Labor Day in 2004. Then it will be converted from a half-mile track into a five-eighths mile track and reopen in November.

It has been a great place to watch thoroughbred simulcasts the past few years. With the video lottery terminals starting on January 28th, I don't know how well the horse fan will now be accomodated.

I don't bet much--my dad taught me well to pick my spots. The tracks I usually watch are The Meadowlands, Pompano and the Toronto circuit. Also follow the Grand Circuit fairly close.

Anybody see the 10th at Balmoral on Tues night? 4 horse spill and when the rest of the field came to the line they had a loose horse coming at them (wrong way horse and sulky, no driver) in the one path, full speed. The announcer was trying to tell the drivers that a loose horse was coming at them, but they kept on coming.........no collision, but it was super dangerous to say the least. I thought the announcer was going to have a baby on the air. made for a super-super. I believe the horse that started it was the post time favorite.
