Superb work by Barbara Livingston for the DRF.
A tale of retired champion stallion, Lord Avie, and a friend who will never forget him - Daniel Perlsweig, his trainer back in the day.
Enjoy!

I took care of an old stallion named Acaroid. Won the United Nations twice for Nerud. If only you could get inside their head for one brief moment to see what they think and feel, man the stories they could tell. Almost cried when reading about breaking up his hay for him. Acaroid lived to be 33 and is buried at Timber Creek in IA. Working with those old warriors in retirement is just so much different than the track. Great story and thanks very much for sharing this gem.

I'm pretty sure he only won the U.N. once.
