Since the programs are free, I decided to take a look.

As someone who is still trying to figure out this sport, can you explain your rationale for the 5 horse in the second race? The last two trips were not good at all - from a results standpoint. On the other hand, the fractions were quite fast compared to other horses in this field. There is also a class angle here.

So have I got this right? Is this pick based on speed and class?

You got it right. My theory while the horse was beat by open lengths, the fractions were blazing compared to the rest of the field. Beyond that this horse was competing at the NW of 15000 which only one other horse in this field has competed at and was cashing in those races as well. Class definitely a big thing for me here. Also shows that doesn't matter the post this horse is in, has cashed and won from the outside posts as well as from the inside.

Plus you got a driver that knows the horse quite well. Its a little different capping races in the HANA contest then from normal capping. We only score if we have winners and the best ROI. I want winners, but I want winners at prices. If I feel a horse is a strong contender and has a shot at a price, I am going to take it in this contest. This instance, the #5 is my horse that fits that criteria.

Just not enough so that I like him over the #8.

Ugh, what a terrible night at Western Fair. First time capping that track and it showed in spades. Will be suckerpunched in the contest due to it. Thank goodness there are only a handful of Canadian tracks for the contest.
