Who will you listen to call the big race?

Durkin is the king, but Collmus has been on the top of his game recently. Loved his Preakness call.

I'd guess that Collmus would like a do-over in the Preakness. But I do think he was a good choice for NBC, and I'm sure he's practicing the various scenarios for the Belmont.

I will say this. Not only is this one strange poll question but the obvious answer is Marshall C.

Have ya seen this excerpt from his hhhWiki citation?

He was best known for his accuracy, precise diction and upbeat delivery...

Say wha?

Marshall, upbeat? Who wrote that?

Neither. Mike Chamberlin @ TUP or John G. Dooley @ AP would be far better choices. Sharp, young callers that are crisp, accurate & creative with their calls.

I don't know, I think John Dooley was better when he was at Thistledown and then Aqueduct. I swear he has since taken voice lessons. Just seems that he likes to hear his own voice and tries to impress as a walking thesaurus.

And what's his love fest with first-time starters? .....on debut, showing debut speed, showing little debut speed, and no debut speed for so and so, this firster, this first-time starter, first under colors for so and so.....and on and on and on.

Who is the announcer at Churchill? I liked his call of the Derby.

Thank you! I should've specified myself better as I know Collmus is on TV.

I have nothing against Collmus, but I like Mark Johnson's calls. And, I associate Belmont with Tom Durkin.

The only announcer for this race should and will be Tom Durkin, any
comparisons to Larry C are mind bets.

Comparing Collmus to Durkin is no different to comparing Tofu to a steak
at Peter luger.

As the premier announcer for NY racing this past decade+ years,
and the announcer for the Breeders Cup for most of these years,
Tom will be the announcer unless he has vocal issues, which
is apparently not the case.

For those curious about Tom's wit, go to google and listen
to his race call at the Spa several years ago with the thoroughbred
known as Arrrrrrrrrrrrr. You simply don't hear announcers take those
opportunities to give a smile to the racing public, including those
that bet against the horse(ie me)

Inmho, the only other announcer approaching Tom's abilities
is Vic Stauffer, and when Tom decides to retire,
I'd recommend the NY racing authorities offer Vic $$$
and the necessary perks for this important position

Yes...Tom Durkin has, as of late, developed quite a knack for giving a smile to the racing public during important races.

Just to clarify - there will be two broadcasts of the Belmont in the United States. The NBC broadcast and the track feed. Durkin will call the race for the track feed. Collmus for NBC. The purpose of the poll was to simply ask who people would listen to on the day of the race.
