For the first time since the early 90s I have to go buy a car .I'm looking to spend around 15k

Not too picky. I'd prefer some type of SUV, but a Sedan is fine too. I've been a little floored over the past week by these sticker prices I've seen. Any good suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not a car guy.

I had a honda accord from 1994-2005, then from 2005-now I have a Mitzubishi Endeavor.

Enterprise rentacar sell it's rental fleet with approximately 45K miles. They offer a 2 year warranty as incentive. Most cars are compacts offered around 12-14K.

Find a local Nissan dealer over the internet that has a 2012 Versa S in stock. Go to the dealer on a weekday morning and test drive the car. The Versa S is a subcompact sedan that rides high almost like an SUV. You need to ride to appreciate this. Price is 13.5K with automatic. The Versa is the least expensive car available.

In both cases you'll end up around 15K total.

Otherwise, just about every compact car is going to cost a minimum of 20-25K out the door. The average price approaches 28K without taxes etc.

I bought a new '06 Scion tC in October 2005 and still have it. Honestly, it's the best car I've ever owned. It's a 2 door hatchback, gets about 28 mpg highway (25 local), quick, sporty looking, seats 4 comfortably (5 squeezing in), awesome stereo (plays MP3 CD's) and comes with the Toyota Camry engine standard. I paid about $18K new. If you want something more along the lines of a small SUV, the Scion xB is very nice and now comes with the Camry engine as well for the past year or so. Probably about $20-23K nicely equipped.

DON'T forget, dealers have cars coming off of two year leases and you can get a real good buy. You might be surprised at how many extras you can buy for $15k.

I love accords. I think the prices have really gone up though. I think for the price range im looking for I'd need to find one with 60k plus miles if im looking at 2009

I was recently talking with a Mercedes Benz salesman I know, he was saying that with the way cars lose value, in most cases, you're better off leasing.

You might want to crunch the numbers and compare buying vs leasing before making a decision, Zipster.
