If the weather is good, there is no reason why it wouldn't be at least 100 grand.

WAY, WAY , WAY , UNDER !!What could you possibly be basing this opinion on? Just look at the last four TC attempts:

War Emblem, 2002: 103,222
Funny Cide, 2003: 101,864
Smarty Jones, 2004: 120,319
Big Brown, 2008: 94,476

Not sure what your definition of "WAY, WAY, WAY" is, but looking at those numbers, I'm guessing it shouldn't be under 90k if I were you....

a day with good weather will break any attendance record for the greatest event in the world

Right, the horse lacks charisma

There was a record crowd for both the Derby and Preakness this year. Given a nice day, the crowd will be huge at Belmont.

I'll be there and I'm hoping for six figures. But, he's a west coast horse with west coast connections. Plus, he's a grinder. Probably not sexy enough for the New York media machine to get behind. I hope I'm wrong, though.

He's a west coast horse....... will that matter?

You could drive 3 hours to see your local horse try the Triple Crown when Smarty Ran?

The hype re the jock (not undeserved) will make up for any lack of charisma for the horse. If it is a nice day, well over 100,000 will attend!

"West Coast Horse".... so it's not the horse's fault but that of the snobby east coasters who would nt want to see him, right?

ps: for the record, I am in pennsylvania.

Shade over lets say 102-105. With today young crowd lots will like to be there because its an event. It will also be trending on twitter. The day the Derby was run I never received so many tweets in a six hour period.

If it was a horse like Canonero II easily 125,000 bare minimum. I was there that day it was insanity at its best.

Also NBC will be plugging it hard for their new sports channel. It will be interesting to see what kind of advertisers choose to buy spots.

With all the negative stuff generating from NY I for one hopes NYRA will shine and have no reason not to believe so. This would be also a good spot to put one of their top assets in full view nationally and in house and his name is Andy Serling.

I forgot about OTB.

My line just went from over to easily over barring terrible weather.

The 20 or so restaurants and OTBs in Queens used to be a mad house on Classic/BC days. It's not a long trip to Belmont.

There were thousands in and out of Crossbay, Forest Hills, Hillside, Main St, and Whitestone alone and that doesn't count the rest of Queens or the other boroughs.

With good weather put me in a way over 100k. Probably 105. As far as lacking charisma, watch what happens. The media starts telling the story of the jockey showing the tears. Then replays the stretch drives where IHA comes from behind to pass the leader and there will be plenty of hype. Even the Barbie Dolls reading the news will kinda get excited. Hype should start the end of this week and certainly the weekend.

2012 Kentucky Derby- 165,307......... 2012 Preakness-121,309
Both record turnouts this year.

The Belmont attendance mark of 120,139 set in 2004 could be in jeopardy come June 9,2012.

Horse doesn't need charisma the event of IHA going for the 1st TC in ages alone, and having a hell of a shot at doing it,is all that matters.
Charisma no,electricity in the air........yes.

I would bet the farm on the over......100k........... ;)

I do not think that there will be an attendance record. That 120,000 was the result, in part, of a nearly 30,000 crowd from Philadelphia who came to back Smarty Jones. A good portion of that crowd used Amtrak to get to New York, apparently, which is why there was an estimated 30,000 infusion from Pennsylvania.

There should be a robust crowd on hand, and it will be a number that I suspect will make NYRA happy.

Do we count the PETA protesters in that over?

I'm much more interested in the over/under for the field size on the under card. Who gives a rat's ass how many people are there?
