Jorge' (me) needs a program to tag or betta yet, leave notes in the 'details' of files.

Pacifically, video files but I'd like to tag & note all kinds of files.

Who got somethin'?

mack,
for image files (JPG's and others types) there something called an "EXIF header". No idea if it may be used on video's.
"EXIF header," in pictures allows you to build an extensive database on photo contents.

For text (any type or brand name), you'll need to find something else. I generally used a different file type with the same name. Sometimes even am email saved outside of my email software and into directory folders.

If you wish to go through all the trouble of using an "hex editor" you may add any notes you wish, however you won't have general access to utilize the notes.

I can see how you read my inquiry but let me clarify.

In the "details" view in Windows you can add comments. As shown:

As I have piles of files that I revisit, I'd like to put notes on each file for ease of use next time.

From all my reading, ya can't do it in Windows 7. Curious if there might be a work around or outside program.

I might be interpreting what you wrote wrong but try this.

Taggtool introduces a new way to manage your digital files using the power of short descriptive words called tags.

"file attributes" +comments (http://www.google.com/search?sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&site=&source=hp&q=%22file+attributes%22+%2Bcomments&btnK=Google+Search)

Good luck.

How do you get a comment in there?

How do you get a comment in there?
It apparently has to already be there. While a BIG fan of Win7, you can't do it. I guess you were able to in XP.

Thanks to both Wilderness & Canarsie for their hep.

Still, no dice.

Mack

Right Click on the file in Windows Explorer, select Properties, select Details tab, move your cursor to Comments, click and enter whatever you want.

You can display the comments if you choose Details view, then right click in the list header and add the Comments property to the view.

There always has to be another come along and point out that we're just a bunch of dunces ;)

The same thing is possible in XP.

Right Click on the file in Windows Explorer, select Properties, select SUMMARY

Comments/Summary don't appear in details after right clicking prop's.

Not all files allow all properties. I tried it on a wmv file and it works.

I'm surprised that it shows comments in the file list and doesn't allow editing them. Winders, phooey.

I'll keep digging.

I'll keep digging.
Mighty kind of you but I hate to take up more of your time.

I reckon I'll have to use a media manager program ie. Media Monkey.

THANKS to all for looking.
