I just saw a story on the Today show, a terrible interview by Lauer. He had this woman on who collects lottery tickets from the trash and sometimes wins free stuff like Magazine subscriptions. Anyway, one of them was a million dollar winner. Well, the convenient story where she won the ticket sued her because they said that since it was their trash, it was their property (even though they allow people to take tickets from the trash). Then another woman came forward and said that it was her ticket and that she scanned the ticket in the store and the machine mistakenly showed it was a losing ticket.
The lottery commission in Arkansas said the the machine is functioning properly. The store has no right to the ticket because, for one thing, a store can't win a lottery from tickets it sells. So, get this, the judge believed the woman who said she mistakenly threw the ticket away and awarded her the money.
Video from the store does not show her buying the ticket and apparently there is no proof that she was the ticket buyer.
Lauer never asked this woman and her lawyer why the judge believed the other woman's claim to the ticket. Now it's on appeal.
