This story was told by a jockey who was in the jocks room at the time..,

One day Eddie Acaro and some other jockeys were getting ready for the upcoming race.Several jockeys surrounded Eddie and they were laughing and making smirks and pointing towards this apprentice jockey who just happens to be riding the same race. The apprentice jockey felt he was being laughed at and had a few choice of words and walked away.
Well it was post time and all the horses were loaded in the gate-the race was off and the apprentice quickly shot his horse to the front and opened up daylight while Eddies horse and the others struggle to keep up.The Apprentice 's horse won by daylight without any serious threat.Eddie and the boys got back into the jockeys room after the race and the apprentice went up to Eddie and the boys and said F*&^ you i just kicked your ass now whos laughing?
Eddie got up and said me and the boys are still laughing at you-the apprentice said why is that ahole-Eddie responded-THATS BECAUSE ME AND THE BOYS BET YOU to win the race so we held back our horses...

So help me God this is a true story. :)

Here is a few of Eddie Arcaro's quotes:

Eddie Arcaro - “There's no sense in whipping a tired horse, because he'll quit on you. More horses are whipped out of the money than into it.”

Eddie Arcaro - “When a jockey retires, he becomes just another little man.”

(http://www.famousquotes.com/show/1011815/)Eddie Arcaro - “You have to remember that about seventy percent of the horses running don't want to win. Horses are like people. Everybody doesn't have the aggressiveness or ambition to knock himself out to become a success.”_
