Santa Anita Derby headlines huge Saturday at the Great Race Place
All eyes will be on Santa Anita Park on Saturday afternoon as it will showcase one of its premier events, the Grade 1 $750,000 Santa Anita Derby. The 9 furlong event has drawn a field of ten runners and will be carded as the 6th race on the Saturday program. Headlining the event is the 6/5 morning line favorite Creative Cause who scored a nice off the pace win in the Grade 2 San Felipe in his last start, beating Bodemeister and Midnight Transfer. Joel Rosario has the mount for Creative Cause who has drawn the rail position in the Santa Anita Derby. Grade 1 winner Liaison is looking to get back to his winning ways as he headlines a three headed group that trainer Bob Baffert will send out. Liaison won the CashCall Futurity last winter at Hollywood Park but has been well beaten in both his starts as a three year old. Jockey Rafael Bejarano will take over the riding assignment again as Martin Garcia will ride another Baffert runner, Paynter.
