a. 2 & 6
b. 4 & 4
c. 5 & 5
d. 2 & 2

As a crap dealer for many years (but retired since 1989), I have never heard of "Ozzie & Harriet" or "bottom of the glass". Unless things have changed in the last 20 years (which is very possible) a dealer in a high-class joint (which would be any store in Las Vegas) would be canned for making such a low-class call.

I recall sitting box at the Dunes once with a new guy dealing. Not new at dealing but new to the Dunes. He called a 7-out as "Eight, skate and donate," and was immediately fired on the spot. Big players would just never tolerate that sort of nonsense.

Even the old standards of the Damon Runyon days were removed from the tables in Las Vegas. There was no "No pair of shoes," "eighter-from-Decatur," or "Five-Two, he's through."

Again, perhaps the world has changed (and not necessarily for the better). Of course, the Dunes is long gone with the rest of "Old Las Vegas." And so am I.

Regards,
Dave Schwartz

PS: I actually dealt Faro in Las Vegas in the 1970s.

I shoot craps at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Maybe there's more of a hoi polloi element at the tables. I've heard: "Cinco, Dos and Adios! (5 and 2); Ozzie and Harriet "Square Pair" (4 and 4). "Hard Six" (3 and 3) = Viagra, Cialis, etc.; "Ballarina Special" = 2 and 2 (tutu).

Answers:

1. a When the ace is counted as 11, the hand is considered "soft."

2. d In most casinos, blackjack cards are drawn from plastic "shoe."

3. c 12-16 two-card outcomes are disadvantageous

4. c Position to extreme right of dealer. It is sometimes called "anchorman." You're the last person in the group to receive cards.

5. a "Steaming" means you're "going on tilt." You're losing it emotionally.

6. d "No more bets." The dealer waves his hand across the layout as he make that statement.

7. d The payoff on a one-number straight-up bet is: 35-1.

8. c Green $25 chip on an "outside" even-odd or black-red bet would prompt this comment from the dealer to the pit boss.

9. Answer should be none of the above (not meant to be tricky). A "split" is when a chip is placed between two numbers, say 20 and 23.

10. b He places a marker on the winning number.

11. d A player exchanges roulette chips (good only at roulette table) for casino checks (chips).

12. b A "martingale" occurs when a player doubles up every time he or she loses. You're going, on losses, from $5 to $10 to $20 to $40, etc.

13. c It the combination of two 3s. Or a "had" six. It's one of the prop
bets in the center of the table.

14 d The number 3. The bottom, on the dice, of an 11 or "yo" is 3.

15. b 4 & 4 is sometimes called "the square pair," or "Ozzie and Harriet."

16. c The number 7 has been thrown. Most people who play craps are superstitious about saying the number 7. They will often say, "Big Red." "It." "Diablo." "The Devil"

17. d An Ace is worth 14.

18. c The greatest spread you can have is 11.

19. b Faro is an old-time card game; it is not poker.

20. b The minimum hand is "showdown" poker is a pair of sevens.

21. c Four cards are left. 49 cards have been dealt. There is a joker.

22. c Who will be dealt the first hand. Although, today, much of that is done electronically.

23. c "Big Six Wheel." It reminds one of the old carnival wheels.

24. d Twenty numbers are drawn.

25. a A Jack and an Ace are equivalent to the point total of one. A ten or picture card is zero and an Ace is one. Added togeher, they produce a total of one.

Again, perhaps the world has changed (and not necessarily for the better). Of course, the Dunes is long gone with the rest of "Old Las Vegas."

My serious casino gaming is now behind me and gone, just as are the places I used to play at in "Old Las Vegas", such as the Sands, Dunes, Stardust, Desert Inn, and others, but my memory is still pretty good when recalling those days. Like Dave says, cannot ever recall hearing the man on the stick making any of those goofy slang calls. Not ever, always professional. Perhaps a few muttered comments from the players using such slang after a number was rolled, but not from the crew. The only exceptions were when a player would toss a check on the layout between rolls while verbally calling out a bet using slang. In this case, if the dealer did not understand the bet the dealer would repeat the bet, and would then converse with the player to clarify.

18 out of 25 in the first quiz. Know zilch about acey deucy and pai gow, plus a couple of the craps street slang got me. That is not good, only a 72, which would earn me a "C" in a classroom exam.
