McCourt needed to sell it for at least $1 billion to make a profit and then I believe half of whatever equity is left goes to Jamie. Absurd price for any sports team.

Maybe 2 bill isn't such a bad deal after all:

i ran by his old house a few weeks ago that he had to sell for millions, that money went to his wife too!

that house had to be the nicest house in all of BROOKLINE, and they got some pretty rich people that reside their, like the HERSHEY'S, DUPONTS, and ROCKEFELLA'S.

excellent move to make Johnson the Front Man, ala George Bush or Nolan Ryan. That franchise needs a likeable and popular figure to be the pitchman. Good move!

I think they overpaid by about 500 million, but its not like they will lose any money.

I realize this article is about 3 years old, but a few years ago the Dodgers didn't even make the top 10 in sports teams worldwide. These guys really wanted the Dodgers bad to pay this much money.

I had heard of Manchester United, of course but never heard of Arsenal. 3 of the top sports teams were based in New York (Knicks Yankees Jets). 3 of the top 10 were soccer teams from Europe. One baseball team and the rest of the top 10 were football.
No surprise there.
This list was the Billion dollar clubs just 3 years ago and the Dodgers didn't even make the Billion dollar club back then. We were in the middle of a bad recession( still are, but worse then). But 2 billion?

If the TV deal will be worth 4 million to them, like the article I posted above suggests, 2 billion won't seem so outlandish.

Arsenal is a very popular EPL soccer franchise, just as Man U and Liverpool are. I'm no soccer guy, but very aware of these 3 & a few more....also, Arsenal has it's own show - Aarsenal 360, shown on MSG and other cable channels world wide.

If what I heard was correct, that this was a cash transaction, look for the Dodgers to be very good by 2014 or so....they'll be very active in FA as well as expanding their scouting system if need be. With little debt that frees up a club quote a bit (hard for me to believe a group would drop 2 bill or close to that in cash)

4 Billion is what the article says........... I thought you were nuts for a minute, equating 4 mil to 2 billion...........

did anybody ever think 25 years ago we would be throwing around numbers like this when discussing sports franchises? :bang:
