--Just read an article online about a proposed new thorughbred track for the Pittsburg area. Do you think Magna will like it if this new track becomes a reality? Would Magna be concerned that a Pittsburg area thoroughbred track might hurt their handle at The Meadows harness oval? Should be interesting to see what develops.

Anyways, here's a link to the story for anyone interested in reading about it:

Mountaineer is already in the Pittsburgh area, maybe 35 miles west (The Meadows is about 20 to the Southwest). They are also building a rack 120 miles north (MNR property?). Sure are going to be a lot of horses in the Pittsburgh area :). Sounds like a pure casino move to me. I believe Magna bought the Meadows because it came with the Meadows racing network. I doubt that the Meadows has any significant handle (although I don't know ... I don't follow them)

I'd just as soon invest in an 8-track player as I would a new racetrack.

AGREE WITH YOU 100%! AND WHERE ARE ALL THESE HORSES SUPPOSED TO BE COMING FROM TO FILL ALL THESE FIELDS AT THESE NEW TRACKS??? THE FIELDS FOR THE MOST PART AT DELAWARE THIS YEAR WERE SMALL AND THEY HAVE THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING A RACINO I BELIEVE.

The only reason I see for the potential of talks in racetracks in PA are for the slots benefits, but the senate just turned them down in lieu of higher taxes. I am sure the public will be happy with that call. it still has to go to the house though, but slots arent looking as good in PA as they were earlier.

Guess the politicians ahven't figured out a way to get their hands on an "acceptable" ammount of the casino money yet.

Buddha, isn't that a Mountaineer project up in Erie? I don't think there are 200,000 people within 75 miles of there. Certainly not enough to support the smallest of tracks. (There are that many people within walking distance of Sam Houston. )

Yea the Erie gig is Mountaineers, but as far as I last heard, I think that it is on hold until further notice. I think they were basically hoping on getting the slot $$$ from the place. I don't know if/when they will start building or racing. MNR also bought Scioto Downs, a harness track in Ohio in hopes of Ohio passing slots.
