View Full Version : What's with the links?

I notice that my recent posts, once I've vetted my texts for typos or just plain dull-wittedness, all seem to contain links--blue, underlined font which, when clicked upon, sends the reader (Hah! As if I had readers; I think everybody registered at PA has me on "Ignore") to places I never visited, let alone to the domains of web-spinners I'd never dream of endorsing.

Let's say I type the word "cigarette"--in the plain, black Verdana that is PaceAdvantage's default font, with no highlighting on my part, no emphasis of any kind. I click on the "Preview Post" button beneath the text box to make sure that what I'm about to release will appear as I'd intended. That done, I click on "Submit"--just as I've done more than 1000 times before. What appears, however, is cigarette, with links to tobacconists, smoking aversion programs, kimchee recipes, wheel-balancing centers, "escort" services, or ShamWow! (the mysteriously linked sites don't necessarily have anything to do with the not-by-me highlighted words).

What gives? Is it just me?

I expect that this post, too, will contain at least two examples of what I've just described--but I have no way of knowing what or where they'll be, and, unless and until someone tells me how to fix things, no way to prevent or undo the links (the "Remove link" icon on the tool bar doesn't help, since it's only after I've posted that the links appear).

There are numerous malware products that insert links into pages of your browser, which only you see.
One such example that many users have contracted is FunWebProducts, which hi-jacks links and sends people to a different page than intended,

In your inquire, there was a link to cigarettes in the text, however there was not anything after and/or in the area of your sig.

Thanks, Don.

I intentionally changed the color of the font used for cigarettes to blue and added the underscoring to show PA colleagues what the by-God-knows-whom altered text looks like. I did not provide an actual link to the manually altered text.

I do, however, see on my own screen the word registered (in the first paragraph) and the cardinal number 1000 (in the second paragraph) blue-fonted and underscored, although I typed them in plain black Verdana, and inserted links for neither. Annoying as that is, I'd be happy enough to know that it's only me who sees them, and that no other readers (again: Hah!) are carried off to the malware-linked destinations.

(Hmm. Now, I wonder what surprises await me once I press SUBMIT!)

What gives? Is it just me?Fortunately, it is just you...don't mean to joke about such things, but it seems you have some sort of bug in your system...hopefully it's not too nasty and easily remedied.

Don't know how I coulda picked up such a swarm o' da creepy crawlies--unless it was one o' dem vids I downloaded from dementedpervert dot com  (I'd've typed out the full URL, but I'm afraid such a site may actually exist, and that my nephew might click on the link thereto). I feared I had an infestation when I got a crash report after only three playings of Mackie's second Cleveland mash. Y'almost lured me wit' dat come-on 'bout buyin' "a house for the price of a VCR."
