It is a known fact that the more weight you put on a horse the slower it runs.
Some people overestimate the effect of weight, while some others tend to neglect it.
I have calculated the effect for three separate distances with the following results:

1000 meters: 0.01 sec/kg
1400 meters: 0.04 sec/Kg
1800 meters: 0.12 sec/Kg

In Anglo-saxon units:

5f: 0.005 sec/lb (almost negligible)
7f: 0.018 sec/lb
9f: 0.055 sec/lb

I used many year books to arrive at the above results, so I 'm certain as far as those three distances are concerned.
One of you verified my results (it's been more than a year now) and also furnished me with a complete table with all the distances.
Unfortunately I lost it and I need it now.
If anyone remembers or knows about the subject, please reply to this topic.

and Merry Christmas to all

:)

I found the message.
It says:

to slow down a horse by one length the amount of weight you put is

at 1 mile 3 lb
at 1 1/8 mile 2 lb
at 1 1/4 mile 1.5 lb
at 1 1/2 mile 1 lb

one length is 0.2 secs so, after some unit conversions to metric, this translates to

1 mile 0.15 kg/sec
1 1/8 mile 0.22 kg/sec
1 1/4 mile 0.30 kg/sec
1 1/2 mile 0.44 kg/sec

The sender quoted the book

JACK LOHMAN and ARNOLD KIRKPATRICK

BUT, now that I see those figures I think they are on the high side.
My 1 1/8 mile coefficient is 0.12 kg/sec.

Anyone with accurate knowledge please reply.

cosmicway,

There is a poster on this board that goes by the screen name "thoroughbred" that I believe has done some work in this area. I don't know how often he checks into the site, I haven't seen him lately, so he may miss this thread. He may be helpful to you.

Bill

It's sec/kg actually - I did it again !
To work out such things to any degree of accuracy you need a long series of data - times - accurated track variants and of course weight differences.
If I see "Thoroughbred" around the forum I 'll ask him to take a look.
Thanks
