Anyone looking to sell Handicapping Magician or Master Magician? Or does anyone know of a better deal than what is listed on ITS?

Thanks!

I saw the Handicapping Magician on ebay recently. I have never found a used copy of TMM. Have also never never seen anybody selling it except Handicappersdaily.

Rick,

If you are still interested in the Hadicapping Magician software you may contact me at tedishere@comcast.net

Rickbw,

If you're interested in the Handicapping Magic numbers, then look no further than the spreadsheet on your home computer.

You can do it yourself.

For example: In excel

The PBS number is calculated this way:

=IF(b8>a8,(f8-((b8-a8)*5)),(f8+((a8-b8)*5)))

The cells are: (a8) fulcrum pace (b8) pace of contender (f8) speed rating.

This provides an uncontaminated PBS number.

When you add-in simple track to track adjustments with an accurate track variant, you have a very strong number.

The PPF number is even easier to calculate.

Shacopate,

Thanks & I am buiding my own excel spreadsheet for HM analysis.

If I plug in your numbers as follows;

a8 (fulcrum) = 25.0
b8 (pace of cont) = 25.3
f8 (speed) = 75

The resulting PBS is 73.5.

Shouldn't the PBS be 72 in this example? Or am I doing something incorrectly?

Also, I would be interested in your calculation for PPF.

THANKS!

Shacopate,

I see my mistake, you have entered the fulcrum and pace of contender in tenths, not fifths. I should have seen this the 1st time.

Still would be interested in your PPF calculation.

Thanks again,

PPF,

d8 = finish
b8 = 2nd or 3rd (in routes) call
e8 = beaten lenghts

=d8-b8+e8*.20

Thanks Shacopate for the Excel info.

How would I get the the data into Excel from TSN datafiles so I can checkout different horses automatically?

Eric,

I think that either Larry Hamilton or Game Theory will be able to you much better than myself, I'm pretty new at this.

Right now, I'm just trying to work out the formulas for some numbers I'm interested in. PBS, PPF, EP, AP, SP, FX and %E are some of the ones that I've got so far. I would also like to find out how the Bris PP number is calculated. I'm sure its compounded, like AP, from other numbers, but which ones?

Might build some macro's using Quinns new turf pars from TBOTH.
Don't know how it will hold up when the rails come out 25ft, but
I might test it anyway.

It's tough to automatically calculate PPF unless you can get the computer to pick the fulcum, which I've given up on. But as for the rest, thanks to Gametheory's parser, I've been able to create those for my own PP's from the database and really is quite simple, just some simple If commands to use the right formula for a route or sprint race.

You mentioned new pars from Quinn TBOTH. What do you mean? Thanks, Lou.

Lou,

The new book from Quinn, the best of thoroughbred handicapping page 251 has updated (late speed) pars for about 25 courses.

I like the way he looks at energy distribution, focusing on horses that are under 51%. Especially, since I just added %E to my array.

If you don't have the book and are interested in late pars for a track or two, let me know.

Interesting, I have always thought about trying this in excel.

I think I've found a way to convert the PPF number into a feet-per-second number. This should eliminate the need for making adjustments or conversions from one distance to the next.

The ratings at the end can be completely trusted in respect to the PPF, and one point will equal one beaten lenght.

The cells are: (G5) distance of final fraction (in feet), (C6) 2nd call lead time, (E6) final time (F6) beaten lenghts at finish

Some (G5) final fraction distances: 6f---1320, 6 1/2f---1650, 7f---1980, Mile---1320, 1 & 40y ---1440, 1 & 70y---1530, 1 & 1/16th---1650, 1 & 1/8th---1980, 1 & 3/16ths---2310

Here it is:

=(G5-(F6*10))/(E6-C6)*2.5

Good luck.

I like calculating the numbers manually. I've found that I get a much better feel for the race and each contenders. I can also experiment and I've made some changes with the Form Cycle Windows that has improved my bottom line. It'll seem like a long time when calculating by hand, but with experience you'll zip through the races like me. And, I do play the simulcast races.

All a person really need is to find one or two solid races and collect on the tri p/w's.

My guess, is that you play a little "Texas Hold-Em."

I would be interested in knowing how you expand the Form Cycle Windows.

Bris to ITS files

I was wondering if any of the genius programmers out there have a conversion program that would take a Bris file and put it into a format that the Master Magician program can load/use.

I can't justify buying both ITS and Bris files, and I'm sure that most of the fields are similar. I noticed that ITS breaks the .dta format into multiple comma-delimited files, but it looks like it also creates a binary file with the .tmg extension which is probably the difficult part in the conversion process (proprietary).

Just wondering.
