Of course he is doing this. He is looking for some headlines, and besides, the time he wastes on this is time he doesn't have to spend addressing the REAL problems of NYS.

This guys is a first class POS. -

Nothing like a politician trying to make hay (excuse the pun) over an unfortunate incident.

Does anyone know of any recent news article that lists the names / dates of all 16 horses that had to be euthanized due to racing/working over the Aqu inner track since 11/30?

Cuomo's eyes are on the bigger prize. The Racino, plain and simple. He is all about legalizing full casino gambling in NY. Just his way of letting people know, "oh yea horses run there too" IMO.
Horses break down, it happens.
None of us like it and most if not all of us are concerned about Rider and horse when it happens reguardless of the outcome of the race. I'm sure I'm in the majority on that.

I heard this morning that they were up all night passing bills in Albany, one of which allows for 7 Vega-style casinos. Trying to get details......

Fastus Cactus just won his 10th career race. He was lame trotting back and was stopped on the turn with the pony. There was no "winners circle" presentation, leading me to guess that he may have been vanned off. He was lame but it didn't look critical so he wont figure into any stats on "breakdowns" which is why such stats are not valid. I wonder if he was claimed? The owner who bought him for $7500 last month gets $18k, less expenses for a month and the race. If the horse was claimed he might have cleared about $20k.
Injuries occur all the time, most of which are never recorded officially. Unless a horse tumbles to the ground or has is euthanized on the track it's like it never happened.

Fastus Cactus was claimed by trainer Kirsten Proctor for owner Barry Franklin. Three other horses claimed out of the race.

Yes, the profit on Fastus Cactus is decreased by the sales tax on the claiming price of $7500.

When the purses are 3x the price of the horse, the "long view" on the horse's well being is no longer a concern. The likelihood of a claim is too high to bother.

Thanks TLG. I was under the impression that sales tax was paid on claims in NY. (Seems like it's paid on everything else here.) With all the activity at the claim box this winter NYS could have balanced the budget on that revenue.
