Eating red meat — any amount and any type — appears to significantly increase the risk of premature death, according to a long-range study that examined the eating habits and health of more than 110,000 adults for more than 20 years.

I'm so distraught I'm going to kill myself via steak - rare, please.

Skip the cornfed beef and just drink corn oil. Cheaper and faster.

I recommend Mazola

That Sirloin medium was pretty good tonight..........

How do they explain this

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2002-11-18-adkins_x.htm

and the fact that since 2002 it's been proven over and over again?

It's a complex issue........but I am doing an Atkins type of diet (not full blown, but close) and this is about my 3rd time. And I feel great.......again........and am just about off the blood pressure meds too......after having to go back to them after putting on about 15 pds. Half way to taking it all off again.

no sugar......... that crap will kill you

This man was ReSponsible for much of that 'tax the wretched smokers' initiative that swept the country years ago.

They reasoned it would be a nice incentive for folks to quit. By taxing the bejesus out of 'em!

Smoke if you got 'em.

Judging by the lines at the Indian Smoke Shop, I'm thinking all they did is tax themselves out of revenue. When I could by a carton of Parliaments for $60 at the local shop, I did. When it went to $70, I still did. At $80, I got a bit reluctant. At $94.50, it finally occured to me that it was worth the extra ten minute drive and five minute wait in a line of 50 like me to pay $52.00 for the same carton.

Yep, in a matter of a coupla years here, they kept taking and taking until the state tax almost equaled the product price. Now, the little smoke shops would be out of business were it not for the fake grass and bongs. God bless the Indians and a (shortened) lifetime of reparations.

$94.50! Holy shit!

$6.11 a pack for Marlboro here at the gas station. $5 in Oklahoma next to the Choctaw casino.

I have a friend who is an agent for the ATF. He said that in the last 5 years their fastest growing area has been illegal cigarettes. About two years ago he thought he was being cool and gave me a carton of reds (as an expert, he wanted to see if anything stuck out to me that looked off - lol). They had the old marlboro miles thing on the side. Of course being a degen smoker, I still opened them and lit one up. Stale as crap. I couldn't believe that none of the ATF guys knew that the miles promo was long done and they were using way old smokes to set up stings that wouldn't fool someone who knew what they were looking at.

Meat industry responds. (http://www.latimes.com/health/boostershots/la-heb-red-meat-study-20120313,0,7594229.story)

On Monday, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health released a study that linked red meat consumption with increased risk of early death.

Probably not surprisingly, the report, which was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine along with the editorial “Holy Cow! What's Good For You Is Good For Our Planet” from Dr. Dean Ornish (the man who helped convince Bill Clinton to go vegan), attracted a lot of interest.

The American Meat Institute was among the first to dispute the findings. In a statement issued Monday, the industry group criticized the Harvard study for “relying on notoriously unreliable self-reporting about what was eaten and obtuse methods to apply statistical analysis to the data.”
