30 years ago tonight as I was preparing to go to the Meadowlands for the Friday night card,word came from Los Angeles that Saturday Night Live star,John Belushi,had been found dead.
Though shocked by the news and wanting to know more,I decided to go to the track anyway.
When I got there and started going over the program,I was stunned by an entry in the fourth race:Animal House.
I noted that the animal had never won at this track,but figured that there was a signal coming from the great beyond.(Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?)
Sure enough,Animal House came down the stretch to pay $11.40.
The horse never won there again.
