Nice size field . Wish there were more races at this distance. Hoping things have changed for Setsuko as a gelding . I'll be rooting for him to redeem himself , but it looks very competitive .

they are giving away money in this race. gladding is going to win this race. 3/4ths of this field has no chance, prayer for relief wants no part of the distance, pedroza is going to blow it somehow.

Is every workout in California listed as "handily" ? I see no "breezing" works, no matter how slow. Whats up with that ?

I hope you're right about Gladding.
I keep looking at the pps and even though I was wondering if I needed my head examined, I think he looks good here.

I just had a look at the field ... doesn't anybody want to run for 750K any more?

Nope. They'd much rather run for $10 million in a couple weeks.

He often shows a bit of seconditis but I like Setsuko in here. Ran 2nd in the race last year to Game On Dude.

Good luck to GoD with Cirrus des Aigles, Smart Falcon and Planteur in the field.

He should have opted to stay home.

Ron The Greek is the won for me.
Me too...please note that this is one of about 4 Cali races a year that i play so my insight is nothing to be revered. He's the only winner at the distance, and that was actually 1 3/16m.
Who in this field will won't be staggering in that 10th furlong?

I can see why Animal Kingdom or Game On Dude would go to Meydan, but is there really nothing just below that level? This is hardly a grade 3!

i still think game on dude's connections are making a mistake. he's unproven on the surface and it set up Perfectly this year for game on dude. what i really do not get is he is a gelding, why not wait until next year when the breeders cu pis not in santa anita. they could have kept him at home all year long and had a huge home court advantage in the breeders cup.

I like Fiddler's Afleet for my LS of the day.

Setsuko looks very good to me in this one. He topped at 10F on this track, and repeated it at 10 at Hollywood, no he's second of the layoff with a good come back race to improve off from.

Gladding is a contender and Ultimate Eagle was no fluke last time.
Tough race. Ron the Greek has a pattern I like - two good races off the layoff, a regression in the third, then a move forward. His regression number beats everyone.

:4: seems like a fit to be in the 10th. No dirt experience, lightly raced, had trouble in a few and has always been going shorter. Its in light also. This all could be a major stretch but 40K is not peanuts to enter here and Ill swing for the fences and hope this is a tricky move by oneil.

the fact that all his wins have come on dirt maybe? let's not play this nit pick game today.

and spare me the he ran well in the pac classic he's going up against a whole new level of competition and is going to need his A+ game to have a chance and he's not going to give his A plus on that surface.

plus he's never ran on tapeta in his life. he's run on polytrack but not tapeta so yeah he is untested.

Tapeta or Polytrack is nitpicking to me, no different than saying Fair Grounds dirt and Santa Anita dirt are different.

I never said "proven" meant he has won. He has a few performances on synthetics, so his form on them is proven in my eyes. It isn't as good as his dirt form, but I wouldn't say it is unproven.

So after a 1/4 mile, was anyone tearing up tickets on The Greek? Looked like he didnt grab the track, was pushed throughout and still won drawing away...okay the suicidal pace helped (two speed jocks on two early type horses, should have saw it coming eh).

toussaud
03-03-2012, 08:49 PM
gladding just doesn't want to run that far. he was ready to run and ran his race. just hit a wall

I mean I lost, but i take solace in the fact that i knew pedroza was going to find some way to blow it and sure enough in the stretch he just took any chance his horse had of even hitting the board out of under him.

poor setsuko :(

And also doesn't Baffert look a genius now, avoided that suicidal pace with Game on Dude to face a softer early pace and much larger pot of gold.

A die-hard NYRA fan, I made the unusual move to stay late at Internet Downs to catch the last three races at Santa Anita—a good show! Of course, I was delighted to see the East Coast invader make off with the big cheese. A few thoughts:

Bill Mott can’t make an appearance for a $750,000 race? He probably had something important to attend to, but…A 10 furlong Grade I race is where you expect blue-chip breeding to rise like cream. The sires of the top five finishers?: Full Mandate, Pleasantly Perfect, Top Hit, Street Cry, and Vronsky; not exactly an advertisement for spending big money on stallion fees…Like I said, it was a good show, but the video presentation made me appreciate NYRA; hate that split screen look down the backstretch.

Not sure you can really be impressed by a horse running 10th, but I was with Ultimate Eagle. Can't imagine he'll have to run anywhere near as fast early as he did today again this year and if this race didn't zap him, no reason he can't have a big year.
