Most charges by a bear (at least the first one) are a bluff to size you up. The appropriate response is to stand your ground, maybe put up your arms to try to look bigger, etc. You aren't outrunning a grizzly in any case.

Not, but what you do is throw the smallest one at the bear THEN run your butt off while he is busy!

Make sure to throw a liberal. Liberals like to hug all animals (and trees), and believe that if you love an animal it will always love you back. Like everything else that liberals believe, they are wrong.

During my 'mountain man' period in Montana, I ventured into the Bob Marshall Wilderness with a chum. Day 2 we're hiking and come face to face with a mama Gris and her two young. She charged us and I nearly soiled myself.

As a result of new boots, I walked with blisters for two days. Opting to disburden myself, I tied T-shirts around my feet and hiked several miles in cotton cushioned comfort.

That experience wasn't half as freaky as coming into a moose with her young in Alaska.

We were camping in Wyoming just a few months ago and had a family of moose (male, female, and a young one) stroll right through our campsite one morning (we were still in the tent wondering what the weird noises were) -- they sat down only 100 feet or so away and stayed there for hours.
