They seized the domain bodog.com, which hasn't been active for years. Bodog.eu is still up and running, and bovada.lv still serves US players. The feds have wanted Calvin for a while, and all this does is waste a lot of taxpayer money while accomplishing nothing.

Classic, classic example of the government making a mountain out of a molehill. And for what? To make a point? To flex their muscle so that they can intimidate everyone? They wasted an awful lot of money to do that.

And if I'm not mistaken and to just to add more insult to injury, I believe this heavy-handed type of international law enforcement actually violates some global trade agreement.

It's always disturbing when the government intervenes in a peaceful exchange between two consenting adults.

If the laws are on the books, there is always a chance that it might be enforced. Especially if the lawmaker(s) who got it passed is on the the DOJ hot and heavy to enforce it.

Doesn't our government have enough to worry about without pretending to be our parents...and telling us what we can or cannot do with our money?

After all...we are not kids anymore.

Attitudes and legislation towards gambling in this country are beyond archaic.
Sickening, really....

Delighted to see the likes of Goren & nagsforcourses, who continually favor higher taxation and yet find the indictment of individuals for MONEY LAUNDERING, sickening.

Raise your hand if you need a sick bag. Goren, you need two?

Always glad to oblige, BM
Is everything about you big?

The problem I have is how gambling is treated, not about those who get caught laundering money.

The problem I have is how gambling is treated, not about those who get caught laundering money. That puts it pretty well. Of course, bigmack knows how I feel about the politicians who claimed to be for limited government who push anti gambling laws on us. I believe in big government, never made any bones about it. None the less, I believe there are few things that we could get along perfectly well with if the government didn't get involved with them. Gambling is one of those things. I believe the government should try to fix things that are broken and stay out of things that aren't. I don't think Internet Poker before 2006 was broken. No need for the government to get involved.

They're pretty much all the same. If they weren't this wouldn't be happening. It's as if the fedrull gubmitt has unlimited resources to chase down every petty crime

Calvin "Bodog" Ayre deserves to go to jail.

He has made millions circumventing the law in this country, and has continually dodged authorities over the years by camouflaging the financial centers that conduct his business. Networks haven't seemed to mind taking his advertising dollars, though.

The problem is this.
What he has been doing shouldn't be illegal anymore.
Allow legitimate bookmaking companies, such as a number of long established UK businesses, or Bodog themselves, to operate in Nevada.
Nevada is one of the few places that could regulate properly.

Then let individual states decide whether, or not, it's residents can do business with them from their homes.
This should apply to casino games/online poker, and to race/sports wagering.
Who gets what slice of which revenues would not be that hard to figure out.

As things stand now, Calvin Ayre, and every other bookmaker, deserve what they get from the authorities.
Just like bootleggers in the 1920s were subject to prosecution, so is the modern day illegal bookie.

Screw regoolating it. Have the Feds take it over.

States are making a killing from dolts playing Lotto. Get the Feds in on some of this action. Cut out the middle man, chop down the debt.

No doubt, the Feds would get their cut.

All governments stink. Some just smell worse than others.
