Originally Equibase reported that it was a trainer's scratch (usually this pertains to a POE scratch). It was changed to a stewards scratch (which could mean anything from a horse from an ineligible entry to allowing the horse to scratch because of an offtrack or a change in track surface).

Most likely, it was a stewards scratch all along. The person who typed up the original report made a mistake. When somebody caught it, it was changed. Anyway, that is what happened a few years ago when a friend's horse scratched with a similar notation.

Could also be a case of a late scratch by the trainer that wasn't too agreeable to the stewards. By making it officially a stewards scratch, they may give the horse days (disqualified from entering for a number of days).
