Man, please someone tell me never to use the overwhelming favorite on top in a race again....

I get killed with these.

Everything points to the horse winning, and, of course, he doesn't. Argghhhhh!

I feel like Charlie Brown and Lucy.

Good god man!

It was experiences such as you're having that started me looking at races from a full-field, wagering value perspective, rather than focusing solely on finding the one horse most likely to win, regardless of odds.

Don't do it againg...Okay.

Lot of people on here will tell you they don't bet unless their spot is at +5-1. I'm one of those people. Look for the bigger margin for your hard earned money. If you can't find it, sit out.

sometimes if you KNOW what you're doing...you can get 5/1 on a 3/5 shot...not often...and of course it envolves another horse...which can/does make it risker.

one caveat...only at tracks w/large pools and handles...

You guys said it. Set my minimum odds, if I can't find it, move on. Patience is not one of my virtues.

It is was only in the last couple of weeks that I also learned this valuable lesson. But as a new player all you want to do is BET, BET, BET... ;)

Some say not to bet against an under even money favorite. I hold off for odds and a spot. The spot being 3 favorite or higher(4th, 5th, etc). But I will keep the favorite in my exoctic wagers if it rates.

I find myself seeing too many glorious possibilities in the 4th and 5th choices in the exacta in these situations that never happen. It was a losing bet in 2009-10.That was enough.I don't bet any favorites.

There is nothing wrong with worthy faves in pic situations, but a lot of $$ can be made on straight place bets, often paying much more than the fave.

I mess around with $.10 supers once in a while and if there's an odds on favorite I only key him in the 3rd and 4th spot. It's been my experience that there's not a lot of value if he runs 1st or 2nd.
