Eleven runners including numerous Grade 1 winners will line up in the starting gate on Saturday at Gulfstream Park to contest the 9 furlong Grade 1 Donn Handicap. Along with the Grade 1 prestige, a $500,000 purse is on the line. Shackleford might be the headlining name in the event and he's certainly out to stamp himself as a top older runner. Last year's Preakness winner hasn't won a race since then, but his second place finish in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile was a strong performance to lead him into 2012. Flat Out is the high weight in the race at 121 pounds and the likely favorite off of his huge 2011 season. Flat Out won the Jockey Club Gold Cup last year and was fifth in the Breeders' Cup Classic, before a disastrous run over the turf last month at Gulfstream Park. Ruler on Ice won last year's Belmont Stakes and is another who hasn't won a race since the Triple Crown season. He loves to go a distance though and should be rallying late. The Donn Handicap is Race 10 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday and post time is 4:45pm EST.
