Have the race tracks thought so little of their gambling appeal that they have capitulated to the Super Bowl, by carding some of the least appetizing races for today ?
5 major east-of-the-Rockies tracks(Aqueduct;Gulfstream;Tampa;Fairgrounds;Oakla wn) have carded NO stakes races on a sunday afternoon. It's not like any of these tracks put on a "super card" yesterday (Gulfstream had one non-descript stakes).

You didn't like Tampa's Saturday card?

Oh I liked it. In my opinion it wasn't enough of a "super card" to have Tampa card 5 maiden races today. Anyway, I didn't mean to single out any track.
Have you looked at the cards today at the tracks I mentioned ? For a weekday they would be called "weak"; for a sunday, they're downright brutal.

Hey , there is a good 5 horse field of maidens getting ready to go in the 3rd at Aqueduct

Agree with the cards today but the pk6 at Santa Anita is doing quite well at 1.7 million from the 300k plus carryover.

The card at Aqueduct today had to vie for the worst ever weekend card at a major NYRA track.:D

They should have canceled racing today with the garbage card they put together and raced on Wed.

If any one of us hit the $75 winner at the Big A today, the card would suddenly brighten. It's early February , give it a little more time.

Disagree completely. I really enjoy playing Super Bowl Sunday. What else am I going to do all day? Watch the hype?

The short answer is, yes, definitely. It's a good business decision.

+1.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself at Santa Anita followed by a leisurely dinner with the family.

One third less people showed up at Santa Anita on Super Bowl Sunday.

Nice post Beachbabe. I started to start a similar thread. I didn't do a multitrack
check, but it also looked like the handle was down at some tracks. The tracks are making a mistake, by not starting earlier and doing more superbowl parties.
They HAVE capitulated. My casino OTB was nearly empty.

They've tried to do that kind of thing for years; this Super Bowl thing didn't just recently burst upon the scene. It doesn't work. Pull the plug, face reality...

"My casino OTB was nearly empty." Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Just Ralph and I went to Laurel Park and it was nearly empty. No live racing there during the football season. Laurel is situated almost directly between Ravens and Redskins territory. I guess management figures there is no reason to fight the inevitable.

BTW- funny thing overheard - one player hollering at the TV for his horse to get up- yelling "uno", "uno", "uno".

Maybe you had to be there, but it was funny.

California capitulated to the SB long ago. SA 1st race went at 11:00 AM and GG at 11:15. Both only carded 8 races instead of the usual 9 on Sunday. Everything was over before 3, including all the simo races. Los Al, which usually races on Sunday night, was dark.
