Tis crane has a boom extension of 75'. It is preparing to drill a 24" hole in the ground 40' deep for a concrete piling. They actually pay me to witness this cool stuff. BTW, I am wearing my hard hat in case the crane falls on me.

Unfortunately yes. Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock Co., around 69-70.
The crane operator was free wheeling his load off the ship to the pier. He thought the lift was empty, it was not. When he "cowboyed" around and popped the brake, the (tower) crane tipped over. He was decapitated.
The ironic part is that this guy had just returned from Vietnam, in combat, and died doing something stupid.

Had one in Columbus Ohio about ten years ago. Some poor bastard was driving by when the crane toppled into a major roadway. Landed right in the middle of his front seat.
He never knew what hit him.
The Crane operator had a blood alcohol level of .08 if I remember right.
Got charged with Drunk Driving. Aggravated Vehicular Homicide.
