Today in the first race at Parx there is a runner called Jab N Punch. He is a 4-yo (born 2008) gelding and as his sire is listed My Boy Acia.

The only My Boy Acia I could find is a maiden born in 2005 who ran 5 races in 2010.

Can this be true? A 2-yo stallion who later became a gelded runner as a 5-yo?

Jab N Punch's dam (Starfight (http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbHorseInfo.cfm?refno=7498303&registry=T)) was also two when he was conceived. It's sounding like a case of two teenagers sneeking off behind the barn to me. Also might explain My Boy Acia's gelding ... her mom caught them together.

That's probably the explanation.

Although I thought that for a foal to be registered the covering of the mare has to be witnessed so that there is no artificial insemination and so on... I guess not?

I'm not seeing anything about witnessing, and DNA would settle who the sire was.

D. To be eligible for registration, a foal must be the result of a stallion’s Breeding with a broodmare (which is the physical mounting of a broodmare by a stallion with intromission of the penis and ejaculation of semen into the reproductive tract). As an aid to the Breeding, a portion of the ejaculate produced by the stallion during such mating may immediately be placed in the uterus of the broodmare being bred. A natural gestation must take place in, and delivery must be from, the body of the same broodmare in which the foal was conceived. Without limiting the above, any foal resulting from or produced by the processes of Artificial Insemination, Embryo Transfer or Transplant, Cloning or any other form of genetic manipulation not herein specified, shall not be eligible for registration.

Thanks for the link.

Jab N Punch ran like a living proof that selective breeding works.

Pedigreequery has the dam Starfight being a foal of 1998:

If you go to equineline.com and get one of their free 5x pedigrees on Jab N Punch it shows his dam Starfight as being a '05 filly by Ponche out of Clover Cherub (which is what Equibase says as well).

I like pedigree query, but equineline is more authoritative.
