View Full Version : NTRA once again fails to capitalize on "forward promotion"

This is my annual rant about the NTRA failing to capitalize on "promoting forward" the new season of tourneys right on the heels of the good PR of a handicapper winning $1 million in dramatic fashion at the finals.

I can't be the only one who hears about a million-dollar contest winner and then wants to go check the 2012-13 tourney schedule to figure out "How can I get in on this?"

Not only is there zero info on the NTRA site about the upcoming season's schedule, but this is the notice that greets you when you check out the blank schedule:

"NHC Tour Schedule
Updated: Dec 31, 1969"

True!

Not that I'm interested in tournament play, but, this stuff really does make you just shake your head in amazement and disappointment. So simple, so easy but you'd think it was rocket science with the lack of cohesion.

agreed on above comments about ntra (maybe it is time somebody else take over the running of the tour). the tour really needs to be better thought out and improvements need to be made (i.e. technological improvements, scheduling improvements and promotional improvements are needed). Potential tourney (tour) players need to know the complete tour schedule well in advance and technological improvements need to be made that provide players with almost real time updates of standings after each available race is run, especially at the finals.

the above is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of missed opportunities and areas for improvements.

problems with the administration and running of the tour are countless.

the main focus of improvements should be directed to eliminating, to the extent possible, potential advantages gained by players with "inside information" about format, scores, selections and timing of events etc...

btw, look for a new format for next years nhc finals.

I was thinking about a idea for a tourney. Car Racing has the 24 hrs of Lemans why not a survivor series requiring players to play a Global racing series starting with SAF in the morning, the UK for lunch, the US for afternoon and Aus at night. All plays would be required to be dropped within 10 mins to post and require players to be present for the entirety. Get the foreign bookmakers on board and offer 3 mil for the winner of International Handicapping champ. The title of World's best would be a big feather in someone's cap.

How about Red Bull and use the crossover appeal.

Forward promotion and existing promotion.

It would have been nice to follow along with the contest contestants and monitor their wagers. Went to the DRF website and the NHC link, couldn't even find the mandatory races.

Now that the contest is over I wouldn't mind seeing the picks that Beychok made that led to his victory.....nothing.

A lot of the lack of promotion has to be due to budgeting. NTRA and DRF are probably operating with scaled down crews and simply do not have the manpower to provide more information than what they currently do.

edit to above post:

I do see where the NTRA site had more information on NHC 13 than the DRF site and the mandatory races. They even had a play along contest that I wasn't aware of.

I received an email a couple days back to renew my NHC Tour membership which I did. I then wanted to check out the tournament schedule and also found very little information.

It is very disappointing that you can't look at an archive of past events and know exactly what is on tab for the future.

I also only found out about this "play along contest" after the fact.
I searched my emails to see if i had somehow missed a notice, nope!
I did get an urgent request to pay up for 2012 though.

What do you figure for expenses?

What do you figure for expenses?

That is the problem.
It sure wasn't $840,000, then again what do we count as expenses?
There is zero transparency with these people.
I've made my choice, no tour for me, good luck to them.
I like to know up front were the money goes.

I'm sure the hosting facility had some charges.

I'm sure the hosting facility had some charges.

They made a ton of money with 20% hold on all monies that was bet through their windows by the 500 players and their guests ( announced fact by hosting facility: $250,000 handle on Friday alone), not to mention any other monies wagered in the casino, as well as any other entertainment and food expenses. TI also billed the rooms out at $150+ for each room night, also charging a $20 a night resort fee per room.
And by the way all qualifying spots won at TI contests are comped by the NTRA.
So I guess we won't be holding a benefit for them any time soon.
