Attached are the results reflecting play thru and including Friday, 01/20/2012. Subject file includes a score correction for iwearpurple from 01/19/12.

You will also find the addition of two new columns. The first one indicates whether or not a player has met the minimum number of races (30 races/$60) to be eligible for prizes and contest points. If they are not yet eligible, the second new column indicates the number of races required to do so.

I checked my original file and I missed adding up YOUR totals.

You have a return of $ 84.60, a bet amount of $ 84.00, and an ROI of 1.007. With my previous post, you can see your current placing as I edited the list. The attached excel file was left unchanged as a new one will exist anyway after tonight's play.

A general comment to all --> As long as I have the original record correct, that is, I have entered the correct race number, horse selection, and payout results, mistakes like this one will almost always be automatically corrected on subsequent postings of the standings sheets, even if you fail to advise me of the mistake.

[Track Collector]

The following information reflects the current standings up to and including 01/29/2012 (Day 10). To make this a little bit more readable, I have left some of the information (that related to eligibility) off below. It is still included in the attached spreadsheet file.

A few players have now played the total number of required races, and are thus now eligible for prizes and contest points. A number of others are close and will also become eligible over the next week. Brand new players are still welcome, but you will need to reach a total of 30 races, playing up to a maximum of 3 races per day with 21 contest from which to choose from. Current players should check the spreadsheet to see if/how much more they need to step up their activity to reach the 30-race eligibility requirement.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This week (Wednesday thru Sunday) Jay Trotter will be your friendly scoring host. Any questions regarding play that time should be addressed with Jay. THANKS!

I inadvertantly put #1 (which was the post position) rather than horse # 2, but did identify the horse by name. Based on rule 12, since I did identify the name of the horse, I believe it should count.

Hi Doug,

You are correct about the rules and you will receive credit for this play. The correction will be incorporated in to the next Standings Update published late Wednesday night or the very early hours of Thursday morning.

A quick note to ALL --> Situations like this one (where the listed horse's name and listed saddlecloth number are not in agreement) will almost always be scored incorrectly, and the error will need to be pointed out by the poster. The reason for this is that the manual data entry process is very time consuming, and thus only the saddlecloth number is entered (and not the horse's name). The benefit of putting the horse's name in your selections post is that when it is scored incorrectly, it makes it easy to give you credit such as in Doug's case above.

If I am not mistaken this contest is ending a week from Sunday? This is actually a great exercise. I have failed miserably and it is due to any lack of discipline. Instead of handicapping 10 or 20 races and cutting it down to 3 races with most likely winners and/or best possible value I pretty much plow forward with the next available race and if a horse I like is too low odds wise I force the issue with a longer priced horse. Recently I have been trying to just not have a super fav and bet lower priced ones but am still bombing out. Anyway great job with the contest. It ain't over till it's over. (I think it is over for me)

Hello Patrick,

Except when entries are involved, I check one's posted saddlecloth number with the numbers in the results file.

In your particular case, your original posting indicated the #4 horse, but the name went with the #6 horse, which is why it was missed.

You will of course receive credit, as the horse's name takes priority when the saddlecloth number and name disagree.

Unofficial results to be posted within 15 minutes.

....the contests are designed so as not to be a burden to participate in. Some guys have nothing but time and that's great, but others still have jobs, businesses, families or whatever going on. Our primary goal in putting on these contests is to offer a quality handicapping experience that focuses on the "quality" of the play; and not the "quantity"!

The Gapfire contest lends a nice balance for all players -- first, it requires a minimum of 30 plays which means you have to be somewhat serious about your participation to actually qualify for prizes; second, it allows those who wish to play a max of three plays per day the opportunity to do so; and third, it allows those who either lack the time to play every day or the inclination to make a play or multiple plays every day, the ability to compete.

In conclusion, this particular contest was all about R.O.I. over a significant number of plays and had nothing to do with the quantity of plays. Another thing to point out is that contests need to be manageable from the scorer's point of view.

In conclusion, this particular contest was all about R.O.I. over a significant number of plays and had nothing to do with the quantity of plays. Another thing to point out is that contests need to be manageable from the scorer's point of view.
