VA AG Fears DC Law May Relocate Rat 'Families' to Virginia

From the article:
Cuccinelli said D.C.'s new rat law--the Wildlife Protection Act of 2010 (Wildlife Protection Act of 2010.pdf (http://cnsnews.com/sites/default/files/documents/Wildlife%20Protection%20Act%20of%202010.pdf)) --is “crazier than fiction” because it requires that rats and other vermin not be killed but captured, preferably in families; no glue or snap traps can be utilized; the rodents must be relocated from where they are captured; and some of these animals may need to be transferred to a “wildlife rehabilitator” as part of their relocation process.

Does this law apply to all species of rats, such as demRATS? Or is is it still open season on them?

Why is it leftist? Another rally the circle-jerk cons at PA? Virginia government is under Republican control.

Rats would have to swim the Potomac, march across bridge to Alexandria, travel by land across Maryland to reach central/western VA, take the Metro that goes to both MD and VA. More likely that the "scare" would affect Maryland more so than Virginia.

Hey, what about the fleas? Don't they need to be protected too?

Had the same first impression when seeing the headline about relocating rats. Thought that the thread was about kicking out and moving politicians.
As for the 4 legged kind of rat, sheer nonsense. So now before killing a rat the species must be determined? :faint: Back in my younger days when living in an area suitable for such things, must have killed hundreds of rats. A boy with a .22 and a couple of boxes of shorts can be a very effective vermin controller.

Are you sure someone didn't put that out last April 1??

Commensal rodents are Norway rats, which can grow up to 46 cm long, and mice. Rat and mouse traps are still sold everywhere.
If not an April Fools joke, that truly is madness.

You might want to start dusting off those skills.

The windmills leftists are so fond of have a habit of decapitating birds. This causes the their prey, rats and vermin, to seek protection by congregating at the bases of the windmills.

This is what we have to look forward to in a leftist paradise; infestation and electrical power only on windy days.

It is, this legislation uses metaphors I believe, so as not to hurt anyone's feelings...:D

The "rats and vermin" (all political persuasions) that are currently masquerading as legislators, but in reality are nothing more than gangsters, ALL need to go....imho...This law may help in that regard...:D

.

Because it is a DC law, and DC's local gov't, as you should know, is controlled entirely by the Democrat party. Maryland, also Dem. controlled will accept the rats with open arms as we are a sanctuary state that accepts illegal aliens willingly.

The rats, if they find their way to Md., will, I am sure, be provided free health care, housing, food and registered to vote.

Wow. Maybe Remy and his brothers will leave Paris for DC. Naw, they have it pretty good over there.

If we allow the wholesale slaughter of rats, where will future democratic congresses come from?

After giving this topic some thought, have decided, that given a choice, would rather expel the 2 legged rats from DC and let the 4 legged variety stay. The former are much more hazardous than are the latter.

Ken Cuccinelli is either a moron or a lying sack of excrement. On second thought he is both.
Sec 2. Para 5
(5) “Wildlife” shall include any free-roaming wild animal, but shall not include:
(A) Domestic animals;
(B) Commensal rodents;
(C) Invertebrates; and
(D) Fish.
Commensal Rodents are defined as rodents who live in close proximity to human habitation. Precisely the rats and mice Cuccinelli is fake panicking about.

Nobody is going to be capturing alley rats and transporting them to Virginia-Virginia already has its fair share of rats, especially in the Attorney General's office. Not only does the law not prohibit the poisoning of these animals, it explicitly exempts them from the law.

From the original article:

While the law exempts “commensal rodents”--varieties of which most people know (or have seen) as common rats or house mice--the rice rat and deer mouse, which are found in the District, are not defined as commensal and apparently are not exempt from the law.

APPARENTLY!

Two questions.
What percentage of the rats in DC fall under those categories?
Does the law state you cannot use traditional methods to kill commensal rodents because another species MIGHT be affected?

you guys and gals do understand we are paying our government to get involved in this nonsense?

if a protected rat does not want to become extinct then stay away from my rat traps.

don't forget to email your reps and tell them to stop this nonsense if they want your vote.

you will feel better.

And still no one has pointed out the funniest line in the whole article:

"Lately, there have been reports of growing rat infestations around the Occupy DC protests at Freedom Plaza and McPherson Square."

I have one question that is far better: Why any government on any level be more interested in protecting rats than human beings? Get back to me on this as soon as you can, will ya?
