if you got up earlier instead of over sleeping a train going 75 would work just fine:D

Semaphore Flags is the system for conveying information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags. Worked fine. With a little patience and getting up earlier no need for new fanlged telephones or radio.

If you are scared of flying, it could come in handy.I think I'd be more scared in a train going 300mph.

Your post brought back some memories. A US Navy signalman could really do some sharp fast communicating with semaphore. It was generally used for short messages of maybe 10 to 50 word groups. A top notch "skivvie waver" could send maybe 30 wpm. What was good about semaphore was that it was non directional, in other words you could send the message to several ships at the same time in that direction. It is hardly ever used any more these days except in drills I would guess. It was very interesting and fun to watch it being used.
