View Full Version : Betting with Bridgejumpers

I love the post(s) that the guys have going on betting against Bridgejumpers.

I want to start one with $1,000 pot and make some show bets on potential bridgejumpers and see if I can grow it.

We shall see how it goes. All plays go only if there is show betting. In general I will do these ahead of time and not wait until the last minute or until some show % has been met. I will not use the other posts to find my plays, just my own information.

We will start today in the 1st at Parx.

I will place $140 show on #1 Sejano

Good luck to all, even those playing against my 'jumpers'

Bad start, bankroll at $860

In the 5th at Parx we will try to get a tiny bit back.

$260 show on #2 Ballistic Sue

It is harder then you think, that is one slip up and kaput. I remember at the track I worked at one guy had worked his bankroll up to about $80K. He bet Genetleman in a small field ca. 1998 in Cali. Took a half hour to count the money. Gentleman ran fourth.
I guess one way to avoid disaster is to take some profit out once in a while.

its 100 times easier today than it was years ago. today you have pace figures that if anything are at their best for show players. you also have fields that are small with 1 or 2 horses with no chance.. if you think you are going to bet for $2.10 on horses that might have pace pressure you will lose for sure.

this horse got a big scratch with the 11 out of the race

but still this horse needs to make the lead off a layoff. if anything he is a better win bet than show.

Horse ran 3rd.

I don't want $3.20 payoffs in general.

I will slow down, make fewer plays.

Bankroll at $696

that horse should be tough next time out

I only just read bridgejumpers. If you are trying to garner a high roi on a show bet or even place......should your program/handicapping, first tell you that the odd's on favorite will not be in the money and then bet your picks?

I think most people who are bridgejumpers are looking for the horse that can't lose ever and then bet it to show as insurance. They are looking for the sure, quick 5% return on their money.

This is an interesting premise.. You can MAKE any horse a bridgejumper by taking the favorite or next favorite (a horse hitting the board in 1 or 2 always) and then bet a LARGE show bet on it. Voila.. you have created a bridgejumper at any small track!

Phantombridgejumpe
12-22-2011, 01:25 PM
large show bets post, not really a bridgejumper post.

But, whatever...

Only other play today...

It's been a very bad year for bridgejumpers, worst I've ever seen. Whether that trend will continue or not I have no clue...maybe in 2012 no bridgejumper horse will run out of the money? :)

Glad you won, but the 3rd race at Gulfstream was a classic bridgejumper lock - five horse field with two horses that were hopelessly outclassed.

It doesn't happen too often but that was a race where you could double bridgejump and bet two locks in the show pool. And if the bigger bet lock runs out, you make nice money on the other lesser bet lock. If the lesser bet lock runs out, the bigger bet lock should pay more than $2.10 and you get some of that money back. If something else happens, well that's bridgejumping for you. :)

Yea, I know, a double bridgejump - I've gone stark raving mad, I admit it. :D

See where I am in another month, if it as $0 I'll be upset.

I think Little Lil will get some HEAVY show play today at Aqu - the 3 in the 3rd.

I'm going to stay away, here is why...

Could be a speed duel
Could just be a prep race
There could be an entry in here - and 1/2 to soften up the favorite
She was not the favorite last time (although it was impressive)
It is Friday the 13th

I'm going to watch from the sidelines today.

Are the Quirin pts the speed points? Are you saying stay away from front speed to show?

what in gods name do you need a need the lead type to get a return of $2.10 to show to begin with?

if that type of horse is going to be on the board, he will win at least 7 out of 10 times that he runs 1-2-3.

if you want to bet races like that to show, you are better off following the "bet against bridgejumper's" thread.

even in show betting, pace makes the race.

Obviously a bad couple of days, will have to start the climb from just over $200.

Will I ever get it over $1,000? Doesn't look good, but those guys in the other post weren't showing a profit last I checked either? Of course their ROI is probably better than 20%.

Like I said, UGH!

Like I said, UGH!they have no chance to win, you at least are on the right side of the proposition. you have to learn how to be more selective on your plays. if you want to play need the lead horses to show, you will lose too.

Phantom, I am not sure if your ROI is at 20% (from what you seem to be implying). Your ROI is right now close -80% is you are at $ 200 bankroll. You started with $ 1000 (investment) and right now you are at $ 200, right? Unless I missed something in the last five pages of the thread where you took out your initial capital. Have seen you post good picks (esp at Remington) - pick3/4 's etc.. so I am not sure why you putting all the money into Show wagering when you could spread the same bankroll on well analyzed pick3 or trifectas.. with discipline of course..
Good luck racing !!

I was using 20% to mean I have 20% of what I started with. So our math (your -80%, and my 20% agree). I guess my term isn't ROI, it should be remaining portion of original (or something catchy like that).

So my math was correct, my use of the term was incorrect - oddly enough having the math wrong would bug me a lot more.

Ah cool!! Guess you could use the term.. "remaining pot?" or bankroll works!! Hey, I am wishing you good luck man.. seriously, like they say:: go big or...

Bet smaller amounts, but bet them on solid tri's or exactas with overlay horses in them.. You will WIN big! and go over $1000 from this 200.. Go Phantom!!
This Jan, i was down to my last $ 6.80 and I was very strong on principle not to add more.. Then I played a $1 tri box and won 27 or so.
Similary last time when my bankroll dipped to $5, I played WP on a 12-1 and the horse won! (Yvette Sangalo).. I am saying this not to redboard but to say that "fortune favors the brave" and the odd thing I make such good bets only when I am low on cash. Other times I play conservative PL /SH and dont make much.. I am becoming a win better bettor now!
